Hey guys. I'm currently a few hundred miles away from home somewhere near havasu camping. I noticed today I have a brake fluid leak on the rear axle of my Tacoma. I'd find the part number at Toyotapartszone myself, but I can't pull up the site correctly on the iPhone.. So would someone look up the part number at Toyotapartszone and let me know?
Truck is a 99 taco, 2.7, 5speed reg cab.

What I need?
Well on the backing plate there's a small circular piece that the brake line goes into. It looks as if this little piece bolts in and I could just pull apart the drum and chage out this little piece. That's the best I cab describe it.

I'm in luck because there is a yota dealer in town, so hopefully they can get this part for me and I can feel safe to get to where I plan on going next (and I would drive into town and go to said dealer, but it's past beer thirty :drink: and I can't drive). I'll probably end up changing the brake line at the same time, cause I think the line stripped this piece or vice versa. Any help would be appreiciated guys. Thanks.

Sorry, I've never done rear brake work, so I'm not 100% sure what you need. From your description, I think that's what you want.

550-35190 (This doesn't look like a Toyota part number???)

47550 looks like it could be it. And that site takes away the first 2 numbers.. Fjytxjufdh

You need the wheel cylinder and maybe new shoes if they are soaked. The dealer should have it if not AutoZone or the like. A bleed and you're golden. Safe travels.

Just noticed that Toyodiy also has 47550-35280 listed in addition to the above part number. Doesn't seem to be listed on Toyotapartszone. :headscratch:

Let me know if you need more screen shots. :hillbill:

Might be able to save the brakes, brakekleen the crud out of them and sand them down.

Got the line out and it was stripped at the backing plate, half way through changing the line out..

New line is in, brakes are bled and everything seems kosher. Going to go into town and get some brakekleen and spray down the rear axle cause this stuff is everywhere..... Except for the ground cause I used a trashbag and some paper towels as a spill prevention :D

Delayed damage from AzRocks??

Well, ya know.. I think it was leaking forever ago, but I tightened up the fitting and it stopped. When I swapped my diffs recently I said to myself "the brake lines have enough play in them so I can get away without pulling them".. Well had I just pulled them I would have realized one of the lines was stripped and needed replacing, and I wouldn't have had to worry about it.. I think it got stripped about a year ago when I installed my locker.. Long story short I don't think azrocks caused this..

Update: 80 miles away from havasu and at a new camp spot somewhere near the CA/NV border and everything seems good back there. No leaks or pooling of brake fluid from what I can see, and the resevior under the hood is still full. SOOO.. all is well. I'd like to
thank y'all again for the help, y'all are the best and you know it :D. Btw, I'll be out gypsy camping until Friday night when I'll hit up troyboy162's place, crash and wheel with him sat/Sunday. Later folks :)

So the Autozone brake line I have back there has been holding just fine since my trail fix in Havasu. However I have been concerned with how long the line is and how it routes. It looks like it could possibly come into contact with the tail pipe under full compression on the passenger side. If stuck like that for a long time one could fear it might blow a hole through the line and there goes all the fluid.

Here's a couple pictures I got while doing the fix..

Squinting hard enough you can see the routing of the stock line over the pumpkin and down the axle tube..

Again, Squinting hard enough you can see the new brake line and the huge bend it has going upwards towards the tail pipe.

Point of this post ?
Thanks to RAFA at Northridge Toyota Parts I now have a new pre-bent brake line and the union I need to do the ext. diff. breather :) I'll have that in soon.

Ya know, usually when you run brake lines you kinda try to cut them smaller and bend them as close to stock as possible Scuba..

I do understand you just grabbed the line off the shelf you thought would work and ran with it tho due to time constraints tho.

If you dont already have them, I highly suggest you invest in a double flaring tool and a tubing cutter. Then you can cut your own lines and work with them. Cheap stuff too, no more than 50 bones at the highest. Flaring lines is rather simple too,if you dont know how.
