So here's the deal.

I currently work at the distribution center for Supervalu here in Minnesota. In the Fall I was planning on applying for an internship at the corporate office, and I asked my supervisor if he could get in touch with anyone about that ahead of time.

He told me he would see what he could do, and that since I already work for Supervalu that would give me somewhat of a leg up on people who found the internships elsewhere. He asked me to get him a resume so he could give it to HR over at the corporate office.

My only problem is, as of right now the only remotely relevant class I've taken are XHTML/CSS, and Fundamentals of Programming (Python). A friend, as well as one of my teachers, said to put relevant classes I've taken on my resume. I just know that those two classes alone will not help me get the internship.

My teacher said I could also put classes I'll be taking in the near future. This summer I'm taking advanced XHTML/CSS, and a Client/Server class. Then in the fall I'll be taking Java, Oracle PL/SQL, and two other classes. The Java and Oracle classes would definitely be something I'd want on my resume.. I just feel dumb putting something on my resume that I haven't taken yet.

Does anyone have any tips for how to put this stuff in my resume? Would putting classes I'll be taking on my resume really be a good idea?

Thanks for any tips...
Cody

Oh absolutely put down classes you'll be taking in the summer and the classes you'll be taking while at your internship. Just make sure you put down the date or somehow let them know you haven't taken them but plan to. Post up your resume and we'll critique it.

exactly, I put down my pending degree the minute I knew it was "in the bag". Same for what my plans are going into the next year so they have an idea what plans are in place.

*1 Page resume's are key it seems, although I also used the two pager for certain stuff.

Let me know if you need any practice questions/grilling, I've been through the ringer these past 4 months.

Well, my degree isn't 'in the bad' just yet! I've got another year + summer semester to go if I keep at the rate I'm going right now.

I just don't know a good way to format a section for classes taken / soon to be taking that are relevant to the internship.

Currently my resume is a page, but it only has my previous job experience which is all warehouse/ preventative maintenance... nothing remotely IT.

Unless i missed it, you didn't state what the internship was for. That's how you should start and work your resume backwards. If its an IT internship, yes, make it heavy on the IT stuff with future classes. If its more along the lines of business, logistics, etc. load your resume up with what you've done.

Ask your sup if he would wirte you a positive letter of reference as well.

It was an IT internship doing programming/database type stuff.. Java, Oracle, various frameworks, etc.

Definitely keep it to one page. You don't have enough experience to fill up two.

Your formatting will depend on what else you intend to put in your resume. If you have work experience to fill it up, then you'll only have a line or two for classes. I would do one or two lines of relevant classes you've taken and then a separate line for classes you intend to take before and during the internship.
