speedo not working

hey guys i just purchased my first 4runner ...
its a 91 4x4 with a 22re ...
so far i love the thing but it has a couple of problems ...
the speedo dosent work at all
and the E brake light doesnt go off ...
would getting a new gauge cluster solve this problem ???
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ...

Gauge cluster could be bad, or the cable could be bad, I would replace the cable first.

Brake light I would go check the master cylinder and add fluid till it nearly comes out and drive around a bit-should turn off unless there really is a problem with the e-brake (doubtful besides it sticking and you would feel that).

Pretty much what CJM said. The e-brake light is probably on because you're low on fluid.

Just an FYI usually when you need to add brake fluid, it is a pretty good indication that it may be time for brakes soon, Brake fluid doesn't just up and disappear and it you haven't noticed it leaking anywhere.....
