View Full Version : Truck got rear ended today

Leaving school round 12:30 at an extremely busy intersection today I had to stop so as to not continue into the intersection and block it ( had a green light but didn't want to block the intersection). Low and behold some bro decides to not pay attention well enough and rear end my Tacoma. He had his Hyundai elantra full with him and 4 passengers and I even heard him say to one of his friends "yeah dude I was looking back at that mercedes..."
Anyway, my truck didn't have a scratch. With the bobbed bed I have an extra 2X2 cross member welded in right under the tailgate. That and the shackles make a pretty good make shift bumper :hillbilly:... Funny how I'm about to buy materials for a rear bumper tomorrow.
Anyway, on to the carnage :

"hi, insurance adjuster man, look at my truck, the impact made the of my truck a foot shorter, and the bumper was completely disappeared. I think I need to have a complete overhaul. and disregard the "chicks dig body damage" sticker, somebody else put it on there, it wasn't me.

Glad to hear that no one got hurt.
With as many accidents as you have, you should keep a stack of "Chicks Dig Body Damage" stickers in your glovebox to hand out after the accident.

Rear bumpers are Not required by law, however Ca registration is....
Not with a Valid DOD sticker on the windshield and a Valid DOD ID card in my wallet.
Truck is under my mothers name, she can choose to keep the vehicle registered wherever she would like, federal law.
Rear bumper build started today.

Nonresident military personnel and their spouses may operate their vehicles in California with their valid home state license plates or until the plates issued from the state of their last assigned duty station expire. They may renew the registration in their home state before it expires or register the vehicle in California.
I like the bumper plan

But since the vehicle is in his moms name, its her truck, and Scuba is just driving it. :)

Go to any military base. You'll see more out of state plates than you will of the state you're in.
Scuba ur good, but you knew that already

Yeah I'll be getting some shackle mounts from BTF, but it's 25 each and I don't have the money to spare right now. Hitch, since I don't have a torch I think i'll end up taking it to a shop I know of and having them add a hitch tube.

Or just go near a military base, half the cars you see driving around have out of state plates..

You don't need a torch! trace the hitch out on your bumper, drill 4 holes in the corners and use a sazall or jigsaw to cut it out!

as far as recovery points my work has a full machine shop and a the head machinist loves me! He's fat and I buy him donuts every once in awhile! if you can send me a drawing of what you need I can get it made for you and most likely we can do it out of scrap so it will be free

Wifey, thanks for the offer I will let you know.
The bumper is coming together. I'm throwing down some pretty damn good beads welding 2 pieces of 3/16ths together with my 110 flux machine so I am stoked !!
