Got my pull strap readily available! Just dialed in my trailhead deflators last night 15psi rear tires and 20psi front tires

just a note, thats not NEARLY low enough out on the dunes... i would suggest a MAX of 12psi, and if you plan to use 4wd extensively all 4 tires should be at the same pressure. Personally i run 6psi in the rear and 8psi in the front, but i run almost exclusively in 2wd out there unless i need 4 for something

You'll be fine. Driving around on the dunes isn't all that technical. It's just common sense stuff--watch out for other people and don't get too off camber. You can avoid the areas you don't feel confortable with. It's easy. Last year there was a mom and daughter out there for the first time, and they did fine.

Air down your tires and either make sure you have a tow strap, or be with somebody that has one. A shovel would be a good idea too. You will get stuck....it's part of the fun.

Thanks, that helps. I've got a tow strap and recovery kit. Will look forward to it! Also, how low can you airdown without going off the bead?

Seanz0rz
09-14-2010, 07:59 AM
well that really depends on your tires, wheels, and the circumstances.

id say out in the sand, keep it above 10 psi for sure. i usually run 12-15 psi in my BFG AT 285/75r16 on 16x8 wheels.

the first two years i was there, i didnt have a spare, so i was more cautious. now that i have one, i might go lower. also depends on the condition of the sand. if it is really loose, like two years ago, then i would go down more.

I guess well see what happens.

im going to adjust the front deflators to 15psi as well. i guess i can always air down more if needed. 15 should be a good starting point.

15 is always a good place to start, and if you feel like you're just not moving, take it down to 11-12

Sean is right that it depends on your tire and rim setup... but for most your not in danger of losing the bead until <5psi... i run 6rear, 8 front for my runs doin 55-60 mph and iv never lost a bead out there.

Kevin, I'd use caution with making these statements. I've seen beads blow at 20 PSI in pismo.

So who's ready for some internet on the dunes?

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c357/jlboggs/IMG_5756.jpg

During parts of the day and at night, I'll have wireless internet along with a file server. This year, everybody can dump all their pictures/videos on to my server and anybody can hook up to my net work (via wifi or network cable) and get everybody elses pictures.

The photo above shows a full internet and file sharing capable, self-sustained network.

I. Am. So. Mad. At. My. Editor!

So here's the deal - I am the photo editor for my school newspaper this year. It has been nothing but headaches with the editor. She's a sweet girl, but a total air head. There have been multiple occasions where she has not communicated something to me properly. Well, because we are officially a club, we are supposed to do a community service project to get our funding form the school. I just found out LAST NIGHT that the project was planned for the 25th! So I told her I couldn't come because I requested time off work for something that's been planned since the summer, and if I CAN'T get the time off work, I can't do the project bc I'll be working. And what did she say? "Is there anyway you can cancel it? ...You committed to this before work." That's the jist of it. I mean, really... *growls*

Ok end rant.

your reservation for a "site" is one of 999 on the beach. you dont reserve a spot so much as a daily limit of vehicles. hope that makes sense. there are no official camp sites, no running water, and trash at post 2 and bathrooms spread out along the beach.

i looked today and there were 924 sites available. usually i book ahead of time, but paying for the "reservation" fees on top of the daily cost is stupid. im saving the 9 dollars or whatever. i will pay when we get there, since we will be there early friday, shouldnt be a problem.

I'll be bringing up a trailer full of wood. Got my m416 filled to the top with wood so we should be good for a nice big fire pit for Saturday! :)

Picking up the tees (event tee and UY tee/hoodies), stickers and the safety whip flags on Wednesday before my drive up to Pismo. Got lots to prep on Thursday but we should be ready on Friday to get everyone situated. Chris and I will be onsite on Thursday to mark the camp sites for everyone along with the event booth / vendor booths area that'll help block the wind from the sea. We'll post up exact camp locations once we secure our site on Thursday. Worst case just look for the UY / Pismo banners that'll be displayed on the RV's that we'll have.

Couple days of work then Ralph and I will be taking off Thursday at 6PM from his shop. We rented a toy hauler for the weekend, so I will be flat towing the Truggy with my Tacoma. GOnna do a test tow tonight to see how it does. We should be rolling in around 9:30-10:00 PM Thursday night.

Lance, When are you getting up there? you going to be monitoring 2M? What frequency? I might hit you up when we come rolling onto the sand with the Toy Hauler. Last year Ralph had his old 2wd Tundra towing a huge trailer with the truggy and a bunch of crap on it. Ended up getting stuck almost in the surf line. Had to do a hard winch pull with my truck to get him out. Shouldnt be a problem with his 5.7 Tundra 4x4 crewmax this time!

few minutes with a recip saw and a wrecker bar, and you can have nice, clean pallet wood. thought about doing that this year but i think i have enough fire wood between leftovers from bb and the tree we cut down in june.
