Stay away from the duplicolor bed liner/undercoat coating it sucks.

I've got a cabinet of Walmart spray paint. It's $0.97 per can and lasts as long as stuff 3 times it's price. Everything I've ever spray painted has needed touch ups so cheap is the way to go. When I got my Stubbs I bombed them with flat black. It goes on easy and is like primer. Just street driving kicks up a lot and will chip the paint. I basically coated my sliders with Hammerpaint and it holds up pretty well. I've found I have to re-paint them about every year.

Here is the thread I started on it (http://www.ultimateyota.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&topic=7461.0)

I used an etching primer from Walmart and then Rustoleum Hammerite over that. It's held up well so far. On my my Jeep I used some cheap black paint and had no issues with that either.

Mine's been holding up great for the past 10 years. I haven't even needed to repaint them.

Just gonna go with rustoleum. Flat or semi gloss???
Also should I do a primer coat?

This is what I do to prep.

Wipe down with Acetone to cut through the oil.
Wipe down with isopropyl alcohol to remove the residue that acetone leaves.
Primer.
Paint.

..... Mine is a trail rig, so I may be a little different.
I wipe down bare steel with paint thinner, then prime, then paint with semi gloss black (its harder - and easier to clean than flat black)

Once they need repainting, I just spray it on.... Usually over a little bit of dirt and everything. oooooohhhh, I know, it isn't the "right" way to do it. But for me, it's a trail rig - as long as it works - it works for me. :) My truck is often not pretty, but thats never been a concern for me like it has for a lot of the DD guys.... So your painting process may be a little more stringent than mine.

do as steve says. thats the right way to do it.

as for choice of color, i did hammerite black, but it looks like grey as slomatt's pics show. hammerite finish---BFD. i dont think it adds much. id go semi gloss black.

I second what everyone else said about the Rust-O-Leum Hammered... it's more of a dark gray than black. It looks good though.

So if you want black, don't use it. You should be fine with either brand. I'd get whichever is cheapest because the rocks are gonna scratch either brand up, so you'll be touching them up as needed.

My UY link above has the hammer finish paint (like your first link) that you want. It also has the pictures and description that shows it color.

Paint?

It's a good idea to, but I've always been too lazy to do that. It can only help.

I got my slideres primed. tommorrow i will do the black finish.

I have the ends taped off. Once the shop welds them on. Should i prime and do the black fishing on the ends once the tape is gone?

also want to avoid paint dust all over the 4runner. any tips
