A while back I was going to replace the bulb in one of my fog lights... As I was removing the bolt that held the unit it place the head snapped right off thanks to rust. Needless to say I've been running around with only one fog light installed on the Runner for a few months now.

Yesterday I was going to take off the hitch receiver to take care of some rust, one of the bolts that holds the part you plug into for brake lights snapped right off from rust as well. So now I've got two bolts I need to drill out and replace.

What shall I break next? How about the front drivers side end cap for the roof rack.. the tab where the screw goes broke yesterday as I was putting those back on. Atleast the came still goes on...just not bolt holding it.

Oh well! I guess I'll put the wrench down before my 4Runner falls apart, lol.

I was going to make a comment regarding you being the only MN UY member, and some reasons why, but you've already had it hard enough. I like the snow but don't love it. Definately not enough to live in the rust belt. As it is it's dry where I live and I still have little areas I battle with, rust bugs me big time.

As for the fog light, the body if magnesium so they are corrosion magnets. The roof rack clips, shoot I broke 3 of mine a year ago and have never looked back. I've got one up there and don't mind.

Yeah... I don't mind the snow much. I just hate the fact that once it snows it stays through spring. The rust on the frame isn't that bad at all.. it's mainly these pesky bolts that are the worst. The underside of the receiver is probably the worst/non-bolt wise.

I just finished painting the roof rack rails with some Rust-O-Leum Hammered finish.. sanded..primered..painted. At least that went well! Had just enough paint to do 'em.

Next step is getting some flat black to hit up the windshield wipers since they've got some surface rust forming on the ends.

Then I'm going to tackle the underside before winter gets here.

I think at this point I'm more concerned with Minnesota drivers than rust. They love hitting my 4Runner with that doors.. rear ending me... backing out and hitting my bumper as they turn out of the parking spot.. etc... *sigh*
