I am researching an electric fan conversion into my 3rd gen, I am aware of the taurus fan one, but I am looking for a fan that will fit directly into the hole that the stock fan sits in.

Anyone do this? I feel with using the whole opening, it will cool more efficiently, and be a bit easier to install?

Does anyone know how big that opening is, or a fan that will fit in there?

I already know which controller I'm getting now I just need to get a fan.

I posted this on t4r and TTORA, but I feel you guys here are a bit sharper than them all :D is it worth the trouble to find a fan that fits the shroud, or should I just slap a fan up against the radiator and call it good?

Several people have bolted a taurus fan into the stock shroud and had good results. I personally want to put an electric fan out of a Lincoln Mark VIII in my 4Runner; I think it will take some work with some aluminum straps to position the fan in there but I think it could replace the stock shroud altogether. The shroud on the Mark VIII fan is pretty fat though, it might take some "customization" to make everything fit :hillbill:

You say you've already chosen a fan controller but I thought I'd mention the FK-35 fron DC Controls- it's sweet! It's big enough for a Taurus fan but probably not for the Mark VII one, for that you'd need the FK-60 I think.

The DC controls one is the one I chose :D I've seen the taurus fan, and heard of the lincon one. I'll look into the lincon one more though.

Bamachem ran one on his 3rd gen and I think it was a Mark VII. He recently posted about wanting to put one on his landcruiser.

YMMV but I installed a Flex a Lite electric fan some years ago and ended up ripping it out and going back to new stock stuff. (I broke the original fan blade in a deep water crossing.) The electric fan setup just won't be as reliable as a properly maintained belt driven setup. As an accessory fan I think they're fine.

Looks like the Lincoln fan is the way to go...

But can you run the variable speed controller on the fan?

x2.

I used to have a flex a lite one. Got it just for kicks and hoping it would free up some load off the engine... basically I bought into the advertisement BS.

It was a pain to install, a pain to wire, always worried me that it would stay on too long and run my battery down, and a pain to uninstall and unwire. Stock is simple.

Are you having overheating problems?

If I was going to use the Lincoln Mark VIII fan, I would use the FK-60 controller for the extra amperage. My personal opinion...

I used a Volvo fan with DCC controller. I cut the fan AND shroud from the volvo setup, and then bolted them inside the stock Toyota shroud. Fit was great and I liked it. Worked perfect.

I now have a 5.0 Ford V8 Electric Fan with DCC controller sitting in my garage waiting install into the UZJ.

Well I think I'm set on the Lincoln fan.. If anyone has one/can get one I want it! No junk yard up here has one, closest place that would have it is three hours away.
