Last weekend I installed an EdgeStar fridge in my 2000 4runner, figured I'd post it here in case someone finds it useful.

There have been a lot of happy customers over on Expo. They say the drain isn't too bad either. I was about to pull the trigger on one but decided it doesn't fit my needs. I need my back seat and although it fits in the rear cargo area I take the ice chest out quite often at camp sites or a base camp. I thought about a dual battery set up for the 4runner making the second battery removable. I would keep it in the back with the fridge and remove both when I needed it out. In the end it was going to cost more than it was all worth.

I just returned from a 3 day camping trip with the EdgeStar and it worked flawlessly. We loaded it up Friday morning and headed out of town, the temperature stabilized at 37F during our drive the to campsite. Overnight the temps were in the 40s so the fridge didn't have to do much work, the next day (24 hours without engine running) the battery was still putting out over 12v and easily started the truck. Based on this I'm comfortable expecting more than 24 hours of runtime on my 68AH battery assuming normal use and 70F(day)/40-50F(night) temperatures. Higher exterior temperatures will of course increase the duty cycle and shorten the runtime.
Oh, and the best part was no ice, cold beer, and dry food! Very happy with the fridge so far.

its not in the near future plans... but down the road. want to get one that fills the area behind the driver's seat nicely, and just permanently remove that side of the rear seat... eventually.
steve - build a box in your bed to protect it

Take out your driver side bucket, bolt the fridge to the floor and then some seat belts to the fridge.

Meh, maybe you could glue a little padded seat on top for comfort.
