My dad passed away earlier this year and my mom wants to divide up his collection of guns/archery/fly fishing stuff among my brothers and me. Any suggestions on how to do this fairly among 4 sons (especially the guns)?

We're a pretty close family and we're all well established in life so I doubt there's going to be any bickering or fighting. We've all somewhat talked about it and I think we're all on the same page.

well, when we had to do it recently......

Is there any certain guns that are special to each of you? each could make a list of the things they want, and anything there is no disagreement on, pass it out, then you can discuss about the rest....

you could always do it lottery style, just put everything in a hat and draw and give it away like a raffle.

Lottery if there is any bickering.

steve,

if you guys can meet up for dinner, make it a celebration of your dad's life. at end of dinner, put names of guns (on paper) all in a hat and draw from a hat.

Sell all the guns to me, problem solved lol!

I would try and divvy them up as fairly as possible, perhaps asking who wants what. You cant decide sell them all and divide cash equally or do a lottery maybe.

I'm thinking maybe a good way to do it is make up a list of the guns complete with fair market values. Then, everybody puts down their top 1 or 2 picks. Hopefully everybody can get their favorite but if not, then it goes from oldest to youngest (I'm the youngest).

Then, after everybody gets their top 1 or 2 picks, then it goes to a lottery style or oldest to youngest again like you guys are saying.
