A few of us Norcal folk ran the Pardoe Trail in the Sierras this weekend and had a great time. The parties involved (from this forum anyway) include myself (paddlenbike), Mike (4x4mike), Scott and Molly (Scotiac), Matt (Slomatt), and Geoff (Piett) in the Jeep and our friend Bill.
The trail runs along Squaw Ridge and offers amazing scenery, great places to camp and a variety of terrain that offers a challenge for both stock and modified rigs. You could probably careless about the text, so on the photos:

that is some awesome scenery ken! looks like we will have to make a point to go up there.
glad to see you back on the trail! a bit off topic, but how is the recovery going? its been well over a year, and a year since i saw you last at pismo, where you were still a bit roughed up! we are glad to see you are doing well enough to at least drive around!

Thanks Sean! Recovery is coming along. A month ago was hiking 8 miles per day in Italy, whereas a year ago I couldn't walk at all. Went waterskiing last weekend, so I can safely say that part of the recovery is coming along quite well. My right wrist is beyond repair though...very little range of motion and some associated pain, but so far it hasn't limited me too much. Thanks for asking.

I only have 6 photos loaded up right now so here they are. Northern California has a lot to offer and this trail had everything you could have asked for. It was a lot of fun to travel around with everyone and nice to have multiple spotters as this trail got a little harder since the last time I was on it.

Body mount, yes. The fuel tank, no.

We're running out of good condition skids to use as templates for a homemade one. I'm thinking that if and when I take mine off to fix it, if I should take measurements and mock up some cardboard. I noticed the legs on my skid have a S profile now.

eh, just pop the skid off, and beat it with a hammer. worked great for me.
give me 10 bucks and ill do it for you at pismo!

or just take it to Sillyfab in Rancho cordova. He can make you a 3/16 steel one for like 150-200 bucks probably.

or that one... 400 is a bit much, but its on my list if i get alot of extra cash.

The skid can be pounded no problem, the problem is the large dents in the tank. I think at least 3 of us have tank dents.
I can make one fairly easily. I'll look into making my stock one stronger as I don't want the weight or price of an aftermarket one. Material is expensive so even making one will get up there in price before it's all said and done.

No Pismo this year. For the most part I did this trip instead of Pismo. The dunes are fun but after a few time there I more than got my fill. Plus it's pretty far for us and we have a lot here that we don't get to do that often.

I'm adding a Budbuilt skid plate + belly pan. its a heavy piece of steel... It'll be on there before the pismo trip.

When I finally got around to getting mine straightened, I added some 1.5" angle iron on the bottom lengthwise. The way I see it. I probably still have a 1/2" extra clearance over the 4Runner tanks.. :flipoff:

I have a bunch of small angle at home and was thinking about adding it lengthwise. I know this will stiffen it up some but only in one direction. Let's call it the hotdog direction. What about the hamburger direction (sorry just something I remember from a kid. Hamburger folds and hotdog folds)?
I think that if you lay it on a rock or a rock punches up it'll still fold length wise.
Oh and MaK92, you don't need belly and gas tank skids for sand.

I checked car-part.com and there are literally 2,850 3rd gen fuel tanks for sale in the U.S...hundreds of them for sale for $50. (Click on page 35 of 57, for example, for the $50 ones.) I don't think I'm too worried about mine--the chances that I smash it so bad that I can't get home are low.

Haha I know. The Skid plate will look cool though. I originally only had a stock skid plate on it. but then I saw a budbuilt on craigslist. so i hopped on it. :)

Kevin, Before when my life was not going as well as I would have liked I would have considered it.
But now that I have a job, a relationship that has me smiling from cheek to cheek every day, its just not an option at the momment.
I am hoping, and seriously going to try to make it out there for a few weeks this time next year so I can get to Pismo and other trails in my own truck lol!

We've all seen them and have been tossing around ideas. I think I'll go with paddlenbike's idea and wait til I bust it. If the price for them starts going up I'll buy one and throw it in the attic.

I don't know about the size. Picasa calls mine 800px.
I hope you had a good time finally running with 4Runners and not just Faux Runners. We don't really have too many friends that don't have 4Runners (true story).

The only bug I saw was a giant beetle when I was cooking breakfast. We camped on Squaw Ridge (8400') and it was windy. I think this took care of the bugs. There were some gnat type bugs at Mud Lake but I didn't get bitten. Mud lake would be a great place to camp but it's at the end of the trail and has always had bugs.
