hangin with the FJC crowd today and saw alot of money out rock bashing...a little nightmarish driving skill and some close calls, but everyone made it out. Me and steve had a good time as usual trying to take the hardest lines possible/impossible. one line in particular gave us hell when a large rock cut loose in the middle of my run. this forced me up the silly hard line and forced Steve to back up and follow so as not to be outdone. luckily i had rotated the rock in such a way to completly destroy the line. unfortunately Steve still bagged it with the help of a strap to avoid a flop :flipoff:.
big thanks to Mike "MKjeepers" for leading us through another one of his creations. hes more patient then i ever could be with new wheelers. i do get the feeling he enjoys crawling through some tough stuff and then watching everyone trying to follow haha. he runs a short arm lift jeep on 35"s. its the perfect tool for cougar buttes

cougar buttes never disappoints. if the hammers are the Disney world of rock crawling then cougar buttes is six flags. the terrain is all some sort of granite that crumbles and flakes under tires or metal. for instance if your trailer hitch drags it will score a huge gouge in the rock and suffer only half as much damage as you would imagine. its got lines for stock vehicles on up to national championship rock crawling.
you guys would love it! Marc you'll want sliders and a locker. thats about all thats required to have a great time there

Cool videos! Looks like you guys had a blast! I love the part of the video when Scuba is getting tippy and someone says something like, "Oh you're in the danger zone" haha.
Oh and did the two of you plan on wearing matching shirts? :P

great pics. i cant wait for my knee to heal so i can start wheeling again since i wont be deploying anymore. i have done several runs and meet and greets with the FJC crowd here in San Diago and L.A. they have a couple wheelers but most of them like to gtg and drink more then they like to hit the trail.
there also kind of like us were fjcruiserforums is like yotatech. and all there cool people left for www.socalfjcruiserforums.com (http://www.socalfjcruiserforums.com) like must of us left to come here.

Nice pics, looks like it was a blast. You should let me know sometime when ur goin' out and if I'm not in school or workin' maybe I could come ride along. :P Oh, and that doesn't look quite like granite to me, but it's hard to tell in the pics. Looks more like some sort of sandstone or carbonate sedimentary rock. Yes, I am a geo nerd... :P

The easy breaking characteristics of the rocks sounds like they could be sandstone. That rock is grippy though. My tires are bald and I didn't slip a tire all day.

Ya, I thought it actually looked kinda like the rocks at Alabama Hills, which is all coquina - basically broken up shell bits all compacted together. That stuff is really rough - I wore gloves to climb around on it but my arms got all scraped up. Was it kind of like this? http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1296212284364&set=a.1391118856969.2050430.1202040180

dont. the place will suck your soul, wallet, and happiness. the math dept is second to none in absurdly horrible professors, and some of the engineering professors are tyrants. the lack of any school spirit will further your downward spiral into the depths of hell. it's only redeeming quality: there is an in n out about 2 miles away...
