Teaser shot :D Looks way more dramatic because the fenders aren't cut.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a168/Sycosurfer150/Truck/5e7f78f5.jpg

Started the fenders today. I only did the rear. I'm tearing into the front this weekend cause its going to take the longest..
Originally I was going to trim them with a dremel but I burnt through 1 disc in like 3" of metal. So I stepped it up to my angle grinder. It didn't come out perfect but after I got back from testing the fit I smoothed it a bit with a flap disc. I also didn't have to trim the rear bumper at all!
After I got it looking pretty good I put some clear silicone on the edge and threw some door edge guard from Orieleys over the edge. Came out GREAT!

BTW. These tires mounted on a 16X8 with 35PSI measure exactly 35" with no weight on them.

Troy, you owe me money for broken parts. After all, had you not stepped it up. I probably wouldn't have. Your gonna need 37's to keep up with me now :tongueout: :flipoff:

I like the rims, a classic look and the silver works with the green on the truck.

Do you have to trim the foot well at all to make these fit, or just the fender?

I like the rims, that's all that matters :flipoff: At least I didn't paint them black.

Yes Keith, in the front I'm going to end up tubbing the firewall back a bit. And trim the fenders. Thats this weekend.

Do you have to trim the sliders as well? I see they've been removed.

TBH, I don't think I would have had to trim them, they were quite short. Though, I have seen some people have to cut their sliders back an inch or two up front when installing 35's.

I cut the sliders off because the passenger side bent up into the cab not allowing the door to open. Installation error, didn't install the scab plates on the frame. Live and learn.

I have new legs, scab plates, and gussets waiting. I'll re install the sliders once I'm done getting these tires fitted.

Looks good scuba, though I am surprised you went with a 16" rim,
Any reason why? And how about the tire choice?

I will be behind you soon, after I get my front diff here and the alignment back in...

I started gutting the interior today. When fitting 35s on a tacoma without ~5-6" of lift there is serious firewall interference. Well, I'm on ~2.5" of lift and its staying that way.
So I pulled the seat, the kick panel, the cruise control brain, and moved everything else out of the way of the passenger side fender well.
For reference, this is about what I'm going to have to cut out:
http://www.trailslesstraveled.com/content/techarticles/63/6_rear.jpg
And I will be following these instructions (http://www.trailslesstraveled.com/article/clearance-for-35inch-tires-on-a-tacoma-at-any-lift-height/)

Excuse all the junk:

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a168/Sycosurfer150/Truck/39dc91bd.jpg

And heres the outside. It's kind of hard to tell the dimensions from a computer screen but I think you get the point.

The cutting starts 0900 tomorrow morning. I've got all weekend off, so I'd like to be able to compete both sides within that 48 hours. We'll see.

Think so? I haven't put much research into it but I know its probably in the future.

hangs too low but sweet idea for extra fuel. the ford tank that bruce sourced really looks like it was made for the rear of a 3rd gen. ill get there haha. but i need a decent garage and a welder, so...its after the house.

lets see some pictures of your cuts, and your STOCK bump stops :P

Done for the night.

I'm 97% done clearancing the drivers side. It got late and my neighbor decided to come remind me that its 9PM

I still haven't gotten to any of the patching or welding. But that shouldn't be too bad tomorrow.

Couple more pics..

When I started I made my lines and drilled some small holes so I could look from the inside and make sure everything was kosher.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a168/Sycosurfer150/Truck/14668a68.jpg

Same picture from my last post, the passenger side done with the cutting. If you look at where the firewall meets the floor pan on the right side of my cut, you'll see a > shape. Once I got some slack right there I was able to beat the fender well back with my rubber mallet.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a168/Sycosurfer150/Truck/5be85222.jpg

I ended up cutting the bumper edges about 3" back..
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a168/Sycosurfer150/Truck/aa02fba5.jpg

Decent clearance between UCA and tire at full droop:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a168/Sycosurfer150/Truck/53ee8c97.jpg

Testing clearance and some point during the day.. BTW, testing and retesting and whatnot took up most of the day. I'd have gotten further along had I not tested it SO MANY TIMES.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a168/Sycosurfer150/Truck/a1966bac.jpg

Drivers side was more of a PITA because the grinder wanted to shoot sparks at me.
But here's how the drivers side started out. You can see that it is somewhat deformed, I had to lay over the pinch weld and beat the firewall back a while ago when the KM1's were still fresh.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a168/Sycosurfer150/Truck/d485c63f.jpg

About done. The lines weren't as clean as the other side. Again, because the grinder was shooting sparks at me and body of the grinder was hitting the truck body:

Will update tomorrow.

Oh, Stock bumpstops BIOTCH! :flipoff:
For anyone not following, I toyed around with the idea of extending these front bump stops. Decided to just go all out. I'm already cutting so why limit travel on an already crappy suspension.

hows it fitting into the wheel wells with the width?

What do you mean? Obviously, it didn't fit very well. But its getting better. I have a feeling when I plate it, it may rub the plate. But it will be a flat non sharp edge so it'll be fine. Read the caption above the second pic, thats how I'm getting away with not cutting so much. Getting some slack and then beating that tire/foot well back a bit.

Forgot to add, Avy's diff parts in a bucket make a great seat for tubbing. :hillbill:

i didnt word that right haha. im working on 3 hours sleep and a full day wheeling. i mean the top part. are you going to have to roll your fenders? i know the firewall is just cutting but id like to push my tires out that far but wondering it they will hit on top

Oh you mean the actual body panel fenders. Idk, they're off ATM. But they'll most likely get the cut off wheel a good bit judging by how much I cut off of the bumper. The shaping of the rears came out pretty great after I put that trim on. So I'm not really sweating the fronts.

Went pretty well today. Started off by finishing up the cutting on the drivers side. Then moved back over to the passenger side to start the plating.
Burned through a couple times, almost lit the truck on fire a couple times.. but the passenger side is planted and has a hefty coating of silicone all over. Seam sealer would probably be better but I work with what I have. I barely got started on the drivers side when it was getting dark. Didnt feel like welding in the dark. Didn't feel like making a lot of noise on a sunday night.. was tired.. and hungry.. So thats where I'm at.

I was severely slacking on the pictures today though, only got 3.

I've got a doctors appt. at 9am. Then have to leave for work by ~2:45. should have enough time to finish up the drivers side and at least get the truck rolling. Fenders on or not.

Its got plenty of the silicone on the inside and outside. I shouldn't have an issue once I get the herculiner on.

hey steve, if you end up cutting your fenders, make sure you dont cut it all the way as high as your tire goes, leave 1/2-3/4 of an inch, then roll it towards the inside.. thats the mistake i made when i cut my front fenders for my LT.. if you just cut it it will slice up your tires when the tires hit the fenders (which they probably will if u cut it close, because the rubber bump stops compress with the weight of the truck on it)

otherwise lookin good!

Hopefully I will have the money at the end of this week.

Gonna line the fenders with some rubber edging. Think I'll be okay. Thanks for the advice though Kevin.

rolling it isnt just protecting your tires tho, it also adds a lot of strength to the body panel...

but we need some better pics now that its rolling on all 4 35's

Not worried about strength. Its a fender for christ sake not load bearing area or anything. I don't see the fronts having any wind flap without rolling them. The rear is another story with the wind flap but I'll take care of that with a little extra support.

This is all I've got. Front fenders aren't cut yet.
