I believe there's a thread on this already maybe... but I really hope the Toyota ends up looking the way the SEMA car did.

Here are some good pics: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=795"]Toyota (http://"[url) FT86[/url]

Ric.. if you read this.. hold out on the Nissan/Infiniti. :D

I'm guessing it's rumored to have the 2l Subi engine... hopefully it'll be the 2.5l though. Those sound mean.. I still wouldn't mind a Toyota designed straight6 though.

thats a huge list of what autoblog has had to say about it. looks like it will be sold under the scion brand, which will probably make it terrible. i guess we will just have to wait and see.

Well.. even if it is a Scion, it'd still should be a fun RWD. I'd guess the only reason it'd be a Scion is to help get some sales for the brand, as AutoBlog mentioned the brand is 'struggling'. Otherwise I don't see the FT86 being a fit for Scion being rear wheel drive, actually (hopefully) having decent power, and good looks.

I'm hoping for the best..

I'm hoping for the best..

and expecting the worst... toyota just disappoints me now. it really sucks when you dont even bother looking at a camry when buying a midsized sedan...

Well there's your problem. You shouldn't be looking at midsized sedans. The 4Runner has the same amount of seats as the Camry, and more room for groceries.

very true, but we need a new car where fuel mileage, price, and reliability/warranty/newness come into play big time, not necessarily in that order.

i actually am looking forward to this car. if it gets 35mpg, doesnt suck, and is fun to drive, id strongly consider buying one!

im liking the Subaru version... hopefully it gets the engine autoblog is guessing at, the >300hp sti engine

I have the feeling it's just going to be an NA Subaru engine. However, they may come up with a GTS, TRD, or Turbo model that uses the STI motor. That would be awesome.

Either way, there should be a good amount of aftermarket stuff for the motors.

Yeah.. the link I posted is supposed to be the 'G-sports' model which is turbo charged + all sorts of other 'G-Sports' mods. Hopefully we see the 2.5l turbo charged in one of 'em! Depending on how much it ends up weighing 200hp might not be that bad though... 300 is always better.

well i highly highly doubt subaru will give the sti 300hp (ej257) motor to the Toyota... more likely the wrx's 240hp (ej255) motor. they commented tho that the bulging hood and fender flares were very indicative of subaru's turbo offerings.

While not something I would buy, I think the car looks great. I really do not understand the Toyota/Subaru partnership--Toyota is more than capable of making a car like that on their own. I just wish it had a small 6 cylinder rather than a 4.

I drove (and love) the new Hyundai Genesis coupe with the 3.8 6 cyl, so if I were in the market for a small sporty car I would buy that. I also drove the Genesis with the turbo-4 and didn't like the motor nearly as much as the 6.

I think Toyota needs a mid size sports car to take on the 370Z/G37. Maybe a new Supra in two different versions. A base model with a 3.5L V6 for around 30-35 grand and a high performance version with the ISF's 5.0 V8 for around 45 grand. This would probably eat into ISF sales, but the ISF isn't selling like hotcakes anyways.

Next, Toyota can release a new MR2. Use the FT-86 engine placed in the rear and a modified Subaru transmission. The transmission would sit behind the engine and the CVs that would usually drive the front wheels on a Subaru would drive the rear wheels on the MR2. You would have a true mid-engined car. Cost could be about 20 grand for a base model and 27 or so for a turbo.

Then you would have this FT-86 to come in at the lower end and replace the old Carola GTS.

If Toyota could build all three of these cars, Toyota would bring back just about every iconic car they have built.

And they can offer a 6spd in 4Runner.

Nissan has it going on. If I wasn't such a Toyota fan, I'd switch to Nissan. Awesome cars like the 370Z, GTR, and the Maxima. And a trail edition Xterra that comes with an e-locker and a 6 SPEED! Toyota is being a wuss right now....there is hardly anything exciting in their lineup. (except for the 4runner, but there's no 6 SPEED!).

One can only dream.

I think if the FT86 ends up with the 255hp Subi engine.. it'll be a pretty sweet car. Even sweeter if it had the 305hp.

Not that I could afford it, but they should definitely bring back the Supra with some engine that could compete with the 370/G37. I know they just renewed the copyright on the Supra name that expired in 2006.

And on the MR2 front I think there are rumors they will be bringing it back, but I believe it's going to be a hybrid. http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/15/tas-2010-toyota-mr2-sports-hybrid-concept-packing-400-hp-3-3-li/ [edit: just read that theres no chance this will make it to production]

I love rumors. I love it even more when the rumors end up being true!

they may bring it to compete with Honda's CR-Z.. but i highly doubt it would have 400hp..

Agreed.
