I am about to go through the front end on my 90 4runner to do regular maintenance. Plus I have torn cv boots.

I've heard that T-100 CV axles can be used on a 4runner. Also, that some of the Brake components can be used from a T-100.

Is this true?

Any info would be helpful. I haven't been able to find any info other than people mentioning that this is done. So if you know of any write ups or links to info, it would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Front brakes and calipers as well as rotors can be used, gotta cut the backing plate slightly.

T100 CVs are longer, not sure if they would work.

the t100 cv can only be used if you are going long travel because they are longer

before swapping brake stuff, you need to see what brake calipers you have. Some of the 4runners have some really good calipers and then I think the only difference is a thicker rotor between the two. There are a couple brake threads for these years with some good info

T-100 axles are too long + the CVs are the same as what you already have, so no real gain there

Read this (http://www.ultimateyota.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&topic=6351.0) and this (http://www.ultimateyota.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&topic=4256.msg68945#msg68945) for some caliper upgrade tech

I checked those links, it was a little confusing to me, but I think I got it.

Just to make sure. I have the S12W calipers on my 4runner, which means that I have the smaller rotors and a smaller caliper diameter?

just to reiterate what was already said, I have t100 axles on my 4runner... they are ONLY to be used with a long travel suspension kit, such as the Total Chaos kit... (or i have a custom kit using similar dimensions)

That is what should be on there, if you can see the caliper through the rim then you can confirm what you have.

I do have S12W. I went out and checked as soon as I read that thread. I wasn't completely sure that the S12W was the smaller caliper and smaller rotor.

Thanks for all your input.

Fwiw:

If you find the braking power of the truck to not be on par consider the following:
-Are your rear brake shoes adjusted properly? The pedal should be rather high and you shouldnt have to much travel.
-Look on the backing plate at the inspection port, remove the plug and the shoes should be close to touching the drums-1-2mm away from the drum. If they arent adjust them so they are. It makes a world of difference cause the front isnt the part doing almost all the braking now.

I actually have a leaking wheel cylinder and that is causing the rear drums to not have much stopping power. But, I wasn't basing the upgrade on that. I just wanted to have the best possible option. I think I'm going to try and fix that and replace the shoes when I do the front pads and rotors. It should make a ton of difference. I've also heard that EBC pads decrease stopping distance by like 30% or something like that. So I'm thinking about getting those.

I have used hawk LTS pads on all my rigs for some time and love them, stops anything well imho even a loaded heavy duty truck. EBC is also very good, but iver never used them.
