Is anyone interested or already planning? Depending where I end up in the next month or two I was thinking this would make a good 2-3 day weekend trip. The earliest I would want to go is late February, but probably thinking March or April might work a bit better. I'm not really sure when the best time of spring would be, but I would like to travel through around the time things are still green and blooming. Again, this is kinda dependent on where we actually find ourselves living at the time . . . right now that's up in the air, but I have a feeling I'll be in SoCal pretty soon (just not sure how long).

i am in 75% right now. it really depends on the date.

im gettin' hitched on the weekend of april 1. im off from march 18 to 27. that would be a perfect time to go for me.

alexus will not be attending, still far too shy to take care of business in the wild, and i dont really blame her (i hate it just as much, but recognize it as necessary for my hobby)

So far it looks like mid - late March, which suits me fine as it'll be deeper into spring and better temps (hopefully)

no prob, when necessary, just hang back a 1/2 mile from the rest of the group

What? Must be a girl thing. I pee in my backyard nearly everyday. I don't love pooping in the woods/trail but never really think about it.

This is a cool trip and I've done it a couple times now in the 4runner and part of it in my van. I would shoot for 3 days so that you can do more sight seeing and do some of the offshoots of the main road. 2 days doesn't leave you much time to sightsee especially if the days are short on daylight.

I've done 2 and 3 days and the 3 days was much more enjoyable.

If you plan on going and it hasn't been said already, go ahead and order the book "Mojave Road Guide" by Dennis G. Casebier It has a ton of the history in it, as well as directions. I was lucky and we ran into him on my first trip and I was able to get mine signed. :)

I'm interested in another trip and will watch this and play it by ear.

Looks like at least 2 groups from ExPo (http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50496) will be running through that area in March. One during the second week of March and the other on the 22nd or so.

I'm currently unemployed (I prefer "voluntarily and temporarily short term retired"), so right now my schedule wide open. I'll probably have to get a job by March though, so I'm definitely thinking this should be a 3 day weekend type deal. How does Saturday March 19th - Monday the 21st sound? Would other dates work better for everyone?

Oh yeah, here's another trip report (http://www.adventureduo.com/2010/12/mojave-road-support.html) for anyone interested in reading a bit.

From what I gather, if there's any rain for a week or two prior to the trip, we'll probably want to bypass Soda Dry Lake to avoid getting ridiculously mired in the muck . . . besides, I'm already locked in a fierce battle against rear wheel well rot and don't need to invite frame rust to the party as well

Those dates are the absolute best for me!

Talked to Alexus about going. Either she goes or I get a delorme and a spot so she doesn't worry constantly. Either way, I win!!!

Can't wait for this trip! It will be a nice end to this quarter from hell and an end to single life! Well just call it my bachelor party (but please, no stripping Keith)

if this is full size diesel friendly im interested my rigs gonna be broke till summer

Seanz0rz

yeah i think you could make it in a full size truck. IIRC the only tight spot of the road is the very beginning, but nothing like the narrow brush trails we are used to.

From everything I read it shouls be a nice wide open trail, just might want to avoid Soda Lake as I've heard some great "stucks" happen out there (plus all the corrosive salt)

Seanz0rz
01-14-2011, 11:50 AM
problem with bypassing soda lake is you get to miss the river bed after it, going into afton canyon, which is my favorite part of the trail.

01-14-2011, 05:58 PM
YOur fullsize should do fine there. There are a couple places that are a little tight but totally doable. We had a H1 with us on my first run, and he's wider than your dodge.

The lake all depends on the recent weather.

Sean, you can bypass the lake and pick right back up on the other side of the lake. No need to skip the river bed.

I am very interested in doing this trip. It's been forever since I've done a run with you guys. I've been super busy with my new job and a race team in the desert race series' on the weekends. I have a squeaky ball joint to deal with before then, but what dates are we looking at?

I just found out that I will be only be back for a couple weeks before this run and am not sure if I will have my ball joint fixed before then, which will be a show stopper for me because I am not confident it will handle the trip. So I will post my status in the weeks prior to the run.
