my plan is also to have a co-pilot by then and the truck only has two seats in "camping mode". im sure there will be some seats somewhere in the group.

read the requirements. You need a locker.

troyboy162
04-25-2011, 08:45 PM
hes got the locker when he swaps axles, but 100's of miles away from home with a engine issue is a no-go. I hate to tell you to keep your truck at home but ive gotta tease you a bit on your track record of wheeling with me ever since ive known you lol

1. pismo- drove girl friends CRV full throttle until it wouldnt go any more with a blown tranny
2. pilot rock- got all the way there to find 4 wheel drive inop
3. pismo- drove 4runner full throttle until it wouldnt go any more with blown motor.
4. big bear day one- bent frame, wheel and steering before getting to the rocks
5. big bear day two- started into hard line and pop cv on first rock

haha i know troy. honestly i hope i dont still have my 4runner(s).. they are so much headache right now that i want to just start over with something new. Also, there is no way i would hit Mottino without fixing the misfire

Scub - Ive got a rear Aussie Locker.

I would like to do this run. Truck rebuild is almost done. Ran it on White Mtn weekend before Easter.

I need a spotter, however. One who is athletic, and knows how to keep the dirt side down, and the diffs off the rocks.

troyboy162
04-26-2011, 10:14 PM
hey Jim! mottino will be easy for your rig. its easier then any of the hammers trails but still lots of fun. we self spot with IFS so i dont imagine you will have any issues

I ran Clawhammer and Fissure Mtn last weekend at JV Hammers. Got a few bugs to work out, but the truck is running well.

I may borrow my friends motorhome, and stay in Fawnskin. Can I reach you guys from there Saturday morning?

The trip is July 30, correct?

troyboy162
05-17-2011, 05:35 AM
yeah fawnskin would be a nice place to stay. you could go through the trails starting at the northeast side of baldwin lake and meet us at the bottom of rattlesnake. or just meet us at the bottom on the 18 by droping into lucerne valley by the cement plants.

how was fissure mtn? ive always wanted to run that one but heard its kinda tame. july 30th is the day!

Fissure was easier than Claw, but a definite challenge in some spots. Stunning views from the top runs, but some pucker factor. A blown tire or failed brake cylinder up there would meaning rolling the rig a 1,000 feet down to the desert floor.

Can you post me GPS coords for Rattlesnake. I've been up Gold Mtn, and JB, but don't know where Rattlesnake is.

Thx!

just to update... this run may change to a lighter (think John Bull) more scenic trip due to a special guest from texas. details will be unfolding. motino is still not out of the question but may end up as a optional sunday run

So, please post up a time, a map, gps, etc.

Hey, Scuba!

Sent you a PM. LMK you got it.

I would like to get yer cell number.

On Sunday, I will drive East from Baldwin Lake on 2N02. Meet you at 10 am, unless you need to change any of the plan... Jim

Smiling_Jim
07-28-2011, 12:38 PM
Hey Rivethead!

I edited up a GPX file for ya. It lists the JV Hammers camp loop, Clawhammer, and Fissure Mtn.

PM with yer email and I will send it to you.

The West corner is the lake bed camp loop. The Southeast path is Fissure. Northeast path is Claw. They join up in the flats on the East side of the mountain. You can have a great run and avoid Claw. It's fun, but removes paint and metal from your rig, and there's not much to see except too many close-ups of Granite. Fissure has OMG views...

Jim

PS Sure hope I get a confirm from Scuba or somebody on Sunday's run on Mottino...
