Compaq Presario CQ60 making funny noise

Hey all... my laptop started making a funny 'crackling' noise a few months ago. At the time I discovered ants in it. After a few weeks the noise stopped. Today it started again, and a bit louder. It sounds like a clatter or clack, and comes from the left side of the computer. I was able to feel it where the palm of my hand rests when typing as well. I'm making emergency CDs of some stuff, but has anybody got any ideas on what might be wrong?

Ya that's what I thought at first too... but then it stopped and it's been perfectly fine for several months.

the left side is where your processor is, which means its also where the fan is. My old Compaq had the fan go out of balance, and made a terrible rattling noise sometimes.. so it could just be a bad fan (my laptop lasted over a year after that happened)

Ya I remember that... hopefully that's all it is! I can't have my computer dying on me right now...
