Ok aside from the fact that this 4Runner is REALLY ugly...it does have one element that I like, and that's the grille.

I've looked and looked but have come up with nothing as far as finding a "factory" grille for my 93 4Runner that has everything the same as the stock one except there's no spot for the Toyota Emblem in the middle of it. I just wanted the grille with the stock 3 horizontal supports WITHOUT the yota symbol (or space for it) in the middle.

well first of all, that is a 3rd gen, not a 2nd gen. i dont know that many companies have made aftermarket body kit parts for 2nd gens..

Have you tried pulling off the emblem and the emblem retainer?

I saw that one, but I don't think it would fit. I was pulling on the grille on my runner and the grille was separate from the chrome outlining. (On a side note, the $70 shipping was odd to say the least, lol)

The emblem is removable, but the emblem retainer is embedded into the grille.

I have a 93 4runner and the black grill is attached to the surrounding chrome

Hmm...maybe the grille was just able to move around in place while still being attached to the chrome.
Not sure on that one.

I think I'm just going to spray the chrome on my 4Runner black with Rustoleum, should make the chrome emblems disappear and give it a better appearance overall for the money.

'95 SR-5 spec w/ special ordered spec..the main center emblem surround within the grille is integrated, no removable center black portion excluding the badge. Chris is your's a Limited then? The removable center deal died off mid-June~August '92 IIRC for the '93 Limited's production year. Now if you have one of the models that didn't have the sealed beam setup like the Limiteds (or mid-94-95 as standard) it was also specc'd.

So, all that said, you can easily get a factory '93 Limited grille like Chris's and swap it right in, or bust out the dremel and sandpaper, but then you're just better off going Satoshi anyhow. :D

When you say "Satoshi", you're talking about the Satoshi grille mod correct?

As for the one you say I can swap right in...would you mind pointing me in the right direction?
I have no idea what I'm really searching for.

Thanks again.

Interesting...I thought all '92 and newer 4runners had the newer composite headlights and I thought the Limited package didn't come out until '94. :headscratch:

92 does start the non-sealed beam lights.. im not sure what Shane is talkin about actually :P dont know anything bout the limiteds though

FWIW beginning in mid-late '92 the proposed Limited's were to begin production for the '93 model year and had beams spec'd like Chris's and mine, and some lower models had like what's in your avatar pic of your '91. Contrary to published web info I've seen a factory '93 "Limited" and the sales info said "Limited". I'm sorry if my saying "sealed beam" confused you guys, I almost put down "big lamps" instead. ;) So again, as far as headlights and that center black emblem shell being removable, it changed in mid-late '92 for the '93 production year. I've also seen a '93 with standard bulbs, although I don't know the specific production date. Here's the parts list for 'em..straight off of TIS and cross referenced for good measure. :D

It all comes down to part(s) availability and what the production dates. It wouldn't be the first time Toyota upspecc'd something because parts ran out in the midst of a phasing out of older stuff. Here's a small shot from Darren's viewer of the cover of the 1992 Catalog showing the upper level model (Remember, Toyota usually put(s) their top trim as the cover art.)

Yep, I do mean Mr. Miura's cool idea. Here's Bob's writeup on it: http://www.4runners.org/writeups/satoshi/index.html

I can't find the specific part # for the grille in question, I just remember it happening. I could go down to ToyConnection and check the stack of spares they have and if there's one still around simply flip it over and look for the TPN (ToyotaPartNumber) which is a 10-digit part code specific to that year, or someone with one could also pull theirs and check quickly. Keep in mind there's been over 15 years since they were made and Toyota's fond of consolidation old part numbers, most recently in 2006/7 so even if you have said TPN you might not get the version of grille you want. If I do find one I might see about posting the info in case you want it.

All that said though, me I'd just bust out the dremel and save a little $ to make mine into the grill like you want it to be.

If you goto this page http://toyotareference.com/4runner#4R90 and select the '92 catalog it'll show the cover in the pic as well as the last page of that catalog then discussing the all new option of leather, premium sound, etc-etc. Again, to be clear, although some of the late '92's and early '93's were not outwardly badged as "Limited" that was the trim option choice the dealer selected to get that level of trim along with those lights.

Of note, the biggest key change was one of the smaller things..

Ok so the grilles you're talking about are what I'm looking for? I'm confused.

Yes. You need to find a Limited Spec grille from a late '92 to early '93 production year either N.O.S. or used since it's no longer listed as available because they consolidated the part #'s into the one that has the integrated emblem surround.

Alright gotcha, thanks for the help. I'll definitely be looking over the web and may stop by my local Yota dealership for more information about them.

I appreciate if you drop me any info if you find anything.

Wow, I had to get a better answer for you and I had to seriously run some errands and make a couple calls and emails, but here goes..

*Note: Technically I was "Wrong" and I now "stand corrected".

The grille I mentioned is not a Toyota grille, per-se, it was off of a Volkswagen Taro. I can't get you the part #'s b/c I can't find the link and my buddy with it's active. The same grille was also spec'd on the same body style 4Runner, which is technically a "Hilux Surf" that was carried on a bit longer than 1995 on the South American market.

I can't find my info I had on them right now and it'd take a bit to get you the #'s from an international parts search on the web.

If/when I do find it I will definitely give a pic and the info.

~They were both rhd and lhd and can be also identified by the little fender marker lights near the doors..and no I don't know how they did the grille and lights in this pic.

@Dan, yeah, me too. The reason I had that link was for Corey (ToyotaFiberglass) to check out and see if they could find a build on it. Between the 2nd-Gen Runners and Hiluxes being built abroad through IIRC 1997/8 and the continuation with them selling off the forms to Great Wall for the Safe there's gotta still be a bunch of little aftermarket and factory mods around. :D

Wow this thread got all confusing didn't it. All I was saying is that the 93-95 front grille is all one piece (i.e. the center black portion is connected to surrounding chrome trim on top and around the headlights), because the OP thought that the center black "grille" was seperate from the chrome on top and around the headlights. I know for sure that it is not seperate and is all one piece, seeing as I've actually had it off and modified it.

:D I figured out what you meant Slo, I figured he wanted to just take off the emblem itself and why I mentioned just doing the Satoshi anyhow since to remove the little emblem surround takes the exact same amount of time. The grill on ebay that Dan gave the link for is the cheap-o version of what I described that used to be available..(first time I looked at the link was just now).
