View Full Version : Need a New Radiator (93)

My replacement radiator is leaking badly after 4 years. Started looking for new ones and I found 3 options:
- Toyota Replacement - $840 from dealer
- Aluminum Core with Plastic Tanks for ~$100-$200
- All metal (copper/brass) from O'Reilly special ordered for $400

I've read a lot and seems like the Aluminum/Plastic tanks have a limited life. Really don't want to send $800+ on a stupid radiator. Read everything I can online but no definitive answers.

Any one have any suggestions? Any experience with the aluminum/plastic ones?

Thanks

Rob, pre-95's didn't come spec'd w/ the plastic/alloy. I went with an aftermarket made one with better size when I swapped mine out, that said it came close to the cost of the O.E. replacement option. How long do you plan on keeping the ride around for, IMHO, factory alloy/brass ftw, they last forever.

* ;) What's the recycle value on the factory stuff these days? Value of say copper vs. aluminum and what you might get keeping your old one and recycling it yourself might offset your investment?

BTW Rob, welcome back to this part of the board, long time no post? Let's see pics of this mess. :D

Don't know what kind mine is, but I got it from radiator barn about 6-7 years ago and it's still doing fine. Way cheaper than OEM.

Radiator barn has some great radiators, used one in a friends truck and its been like 5 years-no issues.

Thanks Everyone, Looks like I'll be going with Radiator Barn as well.

Don't know how I missed that thread that Corax linked, but I did.

Haven't posted any tech in a while because I haven't been doing much wheeling, between kids schedules and work that hasn't been much time. Hoping to get back into it before in the fall.

Here is a picture of the problem.

Thanks, but I put the new Radiator Barn radiator in Saturday and have been running good since so I am all set.

Yes HB = Huntington Beach
