vehicle beach access near San Diego?

I'm trying to look for beach access where i can drive out on the beach, park, fish, etc. near or in the San Diego/Coronado area. I'm from North Carolina where that's still allowed at the Outer Banks, but recently moved out west and am looking for something like that.

Anybody know of anything like that or near there?

The pismo dunes are about 6 hours north of San Diego and you can drive on the beach there. If you haven't already, you should check out the annual pismo trip that SLOsurfer organizes for us. It's coming up in the next few months.
