I need to source a new vendor on the 12 stickers as my old sticker vendor went out of business :(

We've talked about it for years and if there was a relatively cheap way for me to get my rig out there I would. Of course it would SUCK in the dunes, but It'd be a fun event at least. Show all you left coasters what a southeast rig looks like. (read: beat to hell with rocks)

 You forgot to put a red nose and antlers on Rudolph?

We're still trying to nail down what's up with us having to replace our roof on the house in Mexico after our freshwater tank cracked and puked about 500 gallons onto the rooftop cracking the concrete and tweaking the girders. I'm out on all other trips the next 2-1/2 months b/c of house stuff here too, I can't even goto the PMC Swap. :shake:

~We're marking it as a "tentative" so if we suddenly get the w/e free I can use it as an excuse. All I got coming up is the timing belt and likely any oddball crap that comes with 150,000 miles. (Crossing fingers no stupid EGR, etc crap.) Cross your fingers and have tequila and strawberry daquiri mix at the ready for me.

I definitely don't mind trying that again cuz you know it wasn't my 4runner ;) haha! (sorry Bob) but you know I'm good for it.

This year my 4runner will not be action so I'll be driving the Landcruiser up. Ken now that you know what I'm driving you'll really need to come and check it out. It's white just like yours :) Sadly no towing or pulling anything with this truck, this remains stock!

Just wanted to give everybody a heads up...

Anybody that's coming from Los Angeles, Orange County, or San Diego, and is planning to use the 405, BEWEARE, they are planning the 405 closing for the same weekend

http://www.metro.net/projects/i-405/mulholland-dr-bridge-demolition-reconstruction/

Friday night they will shut down a 10 mile stretch of the 405 freeway in order to finish the demolition of the other half of the Mulholland bridge. It's not scheduled to open until 5 AM MONDAY MORNING. However, they did the north side of the bridge in July 2011, and it opened mid-day Sunday.

Please keep this in mind as you are making your traveling plans. Anybody leaving late on friday, and everybody returning home on Sunday may need to use the 5 instead of the 405.

Chris and I will be there Friday morning setting up as usual. We'll be there on Thursday to rope off the camping area. Those that arrive early can help with the festivities of helping us setup.

Like we do it every year, we'll want the camping to be restricted to inside the boundary so we keep all of the vehicles outside of the general camping area. with a bunch of children and 4 legged animals roaming the camping area we would appreciate it if we keep all motorized vehicles outside of the boundary line. We hope to make the area large enough so that we can all cozy up inside.

We will be requesting volunteers to help build the general fire area in the center of the camping area too. :)

thanks ya'll! Can't wait to see you guys soon.

Crinale
09-06-2012, 07:11 PM
parking lots around the dunes are day use only.. the only overnight parking there is is in the camping area of the dunes, which you could just drive the car out and park it on the ocean side of our camp.. I've done that before and it works well, especially with as many trucks and stuff we'll have doesn't matter if you get stuck

Open-open is no problem. I think a locker would actually get you into more trouble. You can take it as easy as you want, I guess your back can stay safe.

open open is only a problem if you end up crossed up in a bowl.. like I may have done the last time i was out there :screwy: but we'll have enough trucks and experienced drivers out there that no matter how you get stuck someone can pull you out. I'll still be open/open this year.. hopefully that will be rectified before next year though.

Open-open was never a problem for me and even though I now have a locker I've never had the need to use it in the sand. If you're stuck, you're stuck. It's different than being in the rocks.

Lance, I think Ralph and I are leaving Thursday morning now as well, so we can caravan up like last year if you want. We haven't decided on a menu yet, but most likely it will be brats, steaks and something else. I'll let you know what we have planned

Brandon,

I'll be driving up Thursday morning with the Landcruiser and the M416 trailer in tow with all of the gear. Chris and I plan to setup the camping area and mark it off in the afternoon. Let's try to setup the same configuration of tents like the previous years.

Will definitely be fun! How much food you bringing? I'm gonna do a costco run once I'm up there so I can pick up some munchies for you guys if you want. :)

any help you need just let us know Lance like Brandon said we will be leaving thursday morning .. i will be towing the toy hauler and a truck load of firewood so i wont be driving too fast if you need extra space to haul everything up there let me know because the toy hauler will be empty and we will be leaving from the Rosemead area

Food,
well i am bringing my Green Egg (bbq) along with a propane BBQ, propane oven, and a big camp stove so i will have a full camp kitchen. i plan on smoking a pork butt out there to make pulled pork sandwitches, brats, burgers, homemade grilled pizzas. there will be more added to the list but the final menu will be discussed on the 23rd when our group gets together for final menu planning

Let's caravan again! Where did you want to meet up? The my m416 will be in Monterey Park so I'll be picking that up in the morning around 815am. Let me know when and where to meet up and we'll hook up as usual.

I'll get Chris on the horn to meet us in town when we get up to Pismo for Lunch?

Seanz0rz

my rule for a tent is divide the person # by 2. gotta have space for your stuff too, and room to move around.

I am bringing a tent that size of the pic above(8 person i think), plus a 4 person tent, plus our farkel RTT (which is 4 person as well).

that is my personal preference. a lot of people prefer the really small tents. at a place like pismo, i don't see why.

I hope it isn't windy this year. i'll take rain over wind any day...

 Umm, ya'all see all the crap there, that's just breakfast stuff, see the tent side bulging, that's from all the other stuff, bikes in lockup, etc. Yeah, with Lil'One I am considering a M-16 these days. Besides, that was through the Family Name Biz as a wedding gift and it's a "necessary" stakedown style and likely won't stay up at all in the sand. I can do one of those fiberglass strung ones and tie it to the sliders/bumpers and maybe another rig in case the wind picks up. I've seen tents go flying out there many a time.

I've never done it online. Always showed up and never had a problem. Our event is just post peak dates so you should be fine just showing up.

As for other conflicting events, I haven't seen anything or have been able to find any events so we should have the whole site to ourselves + other families that are out there to explore the dunes.

Out of the possible 999 reserveable "spots" on ReserveAmerica, less than 50 have been reserved. I don't foresee any problems just showing up, and I see no reason to reserve ahead of time. As Lance said, we're post peak-season, so we should be fine. Now, if we were going the 4th of July or any holiday, you better believe you need to reserve ahead of time. I went this last New Year, I had to reserve my spot in early November, and I got one of the last 15 spots.

Take the 166 out from Santa Maria to Bako, 223 up through Arvin to the 58 through Tehachapi. Thats the way I go to the Barstow/Victimville areas normally. Should only be an extra 30-60 mins for you, which could easily be faster than traffic depending on how bad it gets messed up through the rest of LA.

bump for my wheels?
I'll have to hit you up for the black ones at a later date (if you have them then). I have a few other things to do first. Besides, they would take up a lot of space in the back of the 4runner!

Wonder if anyone else has a crazy to-do list like mine:

Replace wheel bearings in trailer (remove, pack new bearings with grease, replace)
Replace Right CV axle
Reinstall skid plate
Once over on the 4Runner including Engine, Electrical, and Suspension
Help Dan install CB radio
Wash trucks and trailer
Clean tents
Find, organize, and pack camping equipment.
Load trailer and 4Runner with camping stuff for 7 people. (2 page checklist)
Wife is precooking much of our meals.

4 days, we can do it!

if anyone has a 90-95 4runner rear axle housing complete or not. be interested
also a working IFS front diff with 430 gears.

I have a rear axle from a 91 4runner, complete wms to wms with 4:10 diff ($100?). I also have a front diff (minus one cv axle mounting flange), but no clue on the gear ratio as it was bought for parts off a 22re first gen runner ($35?).

Anybody want to purchase a Cobra 19 IV CB radio? I also have a 3 foot firestik white antenna with quick disconnect. Cheap, 39 bucks? Used but OK conditon. I'll bring it, hopefully we'll get some sort of "for sale" listing posted.

Yes but I'm so slammed I don't even have time to type it out. Pismo is actually the easiest as far as prepping and planning for out of them all. We've been so busy this summer it's spilling into Fall and then the holidays.

Seanz0rz

I agree, pismo is the easiest to plan and pack for. It's just the sheer volume of stuff to pack this time that is killing me! Not to mention the garage remodel has sent all our stuff into the back yard in boxes and under tarps, so finding some things, like my SWR meter, has become quite the quest for a needle...

Mojave was a week of packing and 2 months-ish of planning. worth every moment of it.

I've brought home an axle housing from Pismo before with not a big hassle. I used a hitch mounted basket. I was going to throw it on the roof, just not inside as it smelled of gear oil.

Hey guys,

My friend has a 4th gen and wants to know how to mount the fiberglass safety pole. What's the best way to do this? He has a std roof rack. That's it. No mount drilled anywhere. Stock everything. Suggestions on where to buy, etc. Please respond asap.

Thanks,
Bob

This might be a dumb idea, but could he zip-tie it to the grill?

4x4mike

I'd go to somewhere that sells Yakima or Thule racks. For Yakima get a horizontal mighty mount and mount the flag on that. I use something similar. It required adding a piece of aluminum to the mount but it's solid. Mighty Mounts changed about 5 years ago to universal might mounts and less of a rack specific mount. As such the "old" vehicle specific mounts can be found for cheap or in a freebie bin.

I've seen orange triangles on mag mount antennas as well. As long as it is tall enough it should pass.

If he has a receiver hitch you can put, mount, slip something in there. Only problem with that is that it would have to be a much taller whip to be tall enough.

Have him stop into a rack shop and tell them what he's looking for. Then go to a motorcycle/dirt bike shop and buy a flag. At least he'll have the parts and we can assemble something on the beach.

Bob,

I have a hitch mount plate that can be used to install the flag pole. I bought a bunch once the flag pole rule went in effect so just have him buy the hitch mount and we should be good.

thanks!

You only need the flag to go out to the back dunes, We can easily install something at the camp site, he doesn't need to buy it beforehand either as there are several shops right off the dunes that sell full whips and mounting hardware, but I agree with Mike to look into a mighty mount.

When it was pulled from my 4runner in 2010 it worked perfectly. There is surface rust that would take some sanding to clean up, but last I checked it was only surface. One wheel stud on the driver side hub is stripped, but the other 5 on that side and the 6 on the other are good. I don't have a picture as I'm at work, but I'll go try to get one when I get off tonight.

Ya'all have fun. I got everything finished on the 4Runner literally today, and it killed most of my budget. I gave the excuse to goto Gilroy Gardens Saturday to at least get out of town. Depending on how the day goes I'll see if we can drive down for Saturday night or not. If we see ya we see ya. I'll see if there's room to throw gas-$ down on a card. :loser:
