Situation in Japan and What It means for Vehicle and Part Production

I noticed the topic has not been posted, like somehow we're all knowingly avoiding talking about it in here..

So, instead of chatting about the general disaster situation there, which I don't want to rehash in here after dealing with it elsewhere online, I thought you all should know what exactly is happening as far as motor manufacturers from the news and info I have available to me..

Toyota has ceased production, both in Japan and Stateside, they'll resume parts production *hopefully* soon.

Honda has also ceased production in select locations and additionally along with a similar community involvement practice, they are also stepping up big time with their recruiting guarantees. (*Something to specifically admire since I am talking with them right now.)

No info for Subaru or others yet.. Hopefully this will not translate into staggering cost spikes for our parts needs.

Should be interesting to see the long term effects of this disaster on the car industry.. I have no doubt that Toyota and Honda will come out of this ok, as they both have fairly deep pockets, but the availability and prices however.. as i said should be interesting..

Im not sure if its too insensitive or not.. but me and a few of my friends were talkin bout all the classic JDM cars that may have been lost.. like 60s/70s gtr's and the like.. just adds another dimension to the tragedy..

It seems like most of the classic jdm cars have been imported into Canada by now.

There are quite a few companies around here that import the 15 year and older jdm vehicles into Canada.
Quite a few turbo diesel land cruisers floating around here now also.
