Radio Reception Problems
Im not sure wtf gives, I put a new radio in and reception was great. I have a regular antenna too, power one broke so I swapped over to everything manual.
Anyways, I remove the antenna voila at the spot I was in the station came in LOUD and CLEAR. Put antenna back in reception goes away.. makes no sense. Im gonna try a spare antenna mast, but Im thinking the wire mighta shorted or something. All I can recall is taking off the antenna mast for the car wash a few weeks ago.

I wonder if you're shorting it out on the fender somehow?
-
sounds like a short either at the fender and/or behind it. have ya checked behind the fender to see what the wiring looks like?
-
Just wanted to update this:
I checked behind the fender for a cut/shorted wire and nothing. Checked the wire inside the cab and no issues. I decided to see what would happen if I messed with the radio antenna. Depending on how I hold it it seems to get better reception.
I think its just the base of the antenna, although it looks fine perhaps its shorted somewhere where i cant see or internally loose. Doesnt seem to be, but why else when you hold or let go the antenna does it get better/worse

just fyi, you touching the antenna will change the antenna's "length", and thus its ability to receive.

Wonder if thats the issue... Hmm... Im actually using a tacoma antenna (non power) I nabbed off a truck in a JY.
Thin that doesnt make sense to me is with my old pos radio I didnt have a reception issue. New radio didnt have an issue either until recently.
EDIT:
I was googling around and I found something about a setting called "local" my pioneer HU has, played with it a bit in the driveway and it seemed to work better. IDK exactly b/c I dont have a manual and there are 4 levels and no explanation of what they do. Gonna hafta DL the manual.
