They should bring back the 3rd gen to the United States. I wonder if it would out sell the current 5th gen?

Tough call on 3rd gen vs 5th gen. With the majority of people not using the 4runner for what it was built for it'll be very tough for people to want the smaller 3rd gen vs the newer 5th gen. The 3rd gen is practically the same size as the current rav4 so you might be on a losing battle when it comes to sales.
As for the 70 series... now that's a truck that's worthy of it coming back. too bad we can't get it here unless we buy used and import the sucker. One day I'm gonna grab me a 70 series!
I don't know what I would do if Toyota offered a new 3rd gen here. On one hand, there's nothing wrong with the one I have, yet the thought of a brand new one would be tempting. I really wish for nothing else in an SUV. Okay, perhaps give us steering wheel audio controls and change the green instrument lighting to white, and call it good! :)
Give us the vvti 2.7L and the six speed gearbox, move the fuel tank to the back, swing out tire carrier, full length top rack option, and an optional third row.
That's how you do it.

I'll keep my gas tank between the axles and the frame rails! I have no desire to turn into a human torch when some dirt bag rear ends me.
I would love a 70. I'm actually considering importing a LHD model as an eventual replacement to the 4Runner.
If the tank can be slimmer and not stick out below the frame rail would be ideal regardless of location. The challenge is making sure it's big enough to get a few miles or else you're bust! I'm okay with the tank in the rear so long as you've got a beefy rear bumper and a solid skid to protect it.
Sean, LHD will be cool but I'd still prefer a RHD. I'm just lazy like that! Want to get me one too? haha
I would love a 70 series here!
I'd even be happy if Toyota decided to sell the Foretuner here. It's a nice ride, and not much larger than a 3rd gen.
This would be so awesome if they brought it over here!
It interesting they put the 4.0l in it though, anyone else see that info?
If they decided to sell the 3rd gen new again here in the states I would be first in line at the dealer to pick up one.
I remember the day we got my stepdads 02' Sport, 2 miles on the OD, feel of a fresh trans and brand new interior, and now its got 280k on it lol.
The way most third gen guys have retrofitted the tank in the rear has been pretty safe compared to other manufactures that it comes stock on, For example the grand cherokee, I never realized how low they sat till I saw 3 different ones hanging below the bumper with a good size dent in them (I think one was even leaking -_-)
I've seen several GC's leaking fuel. Dan was with me once on the way up to pismo. It was pouring out! Guy looked underneath and then drove off!
I'd buy a new 3rd gen. Especially if the seats were more comfortable and the engine had more power.
