Scuba why are you making a welding sled?!?! :drink: :asshat: :flipoff:
Couple more things I learned that helped me a bunch that I'm guessing might help you
keep the wire short, shorting the tip sucks but you want to be as close as you can get
listen for a steady sizzle, if it keeps popping stop & brush the area really well
that's some nice thick metal, good to learn on as you don't have to worry about burning thru. Like Kevin said, turn up the heat & I think you may be moving too fast as well. Have fun!
should sound like bacon frying in the skillet :DQuote:

Yes the legs are slightly rusted, but they were pre cut, perfect size, and 1$ each.
I spent almost an hour grinding this grinding that..
anyway..

are you building an elephant cart? those legs are huge. 1.25" squre tubing is like $1.5 a foot, get some and plan ahead, if you want to build a cart, build one can hold the argon bottle, it doesn't need to be tall, 30-36" from ground to the top of the welder is just perfect.
next thing you should think about is building a welding table. this is one i just made over the weekend, all the material were "drop metal" from steel yards, 50 cents a pound. the top is 3/16" 28"L x 24"W, leges are 30" long 0.120 wall 1.5" squre tubing. the tray is a piece of 1/8" thick plate 24"L x 12"W. all these are drop metal, i don't have a choise of cutting them to my prefered size. lightweight caster from HF about $2 each. all together about 30 bucks plus my own labor.

small, simple projects like this will teach you the patiance and skills. remember, measure, re-measure, tack weld, measure again, weld, measure again. make sure every thing is level and squre.
have fun while doing it.
*borat voice* A Vedddy Nice !!!
:D
That should come next..
