New site looks good. The background is a bit busy and tough on the eyes, IMHO.
  2. New recall: 2001-2004 Tacoma spare tire mount

    Edited Article:
"Toyota is recalling about 150,000 Tacoma midsize pickups because the spare tires can fall from beneath the trucks.
The recalled trucks from the 2001 to 2004 model years were sold...

    Re: Brake Caliper Woes

$300/side for Toyota OEM sounds like new ones. Have your Toyota dealer add -84 to the end of the part number and get a quote on remanned ones. I suspect they are 1/3 the cost.

    Re: Project Headgasket (finally)

Seems Johnny Cash built one a piece at a time, might as well take yours out one small piece at a time. :)

    Re: weird chirpy noise

In addition to the radiator and radiator shield, maybe a bolt on the bumper, chassis, fuse box, skid plate, etc. is loose.

When I did my HG here is how I cleaned the block and pistons:
    - Plugged the oil and water ports with chunks of lint free rags packed tightly just below the working surface....just be careful to get...

Yea, the dealer here is probably the same. They did give a recommendation to their credit.

    Re: Project Headgasket (finally)

A couple of other things I'd suggest: Reseal that water bypass tube in the valley between the cylinder banks, replace the knock sensor wire, and any hard-to-get-to water or vacuum hoses.

    Re: Project Headgasket (finally)

Call your local Toyota dealer and ask what machine shop they send head work out to....very few dealers do it inhouse.

Here it was NAPA and I took in the heads with the lifters still in them, the...

    Re: Project Headgasket (finally)

Send those injectors out to www.witchhunter.com for cleaning. They'll pre-test, clean them, flow test, and replace gaskets for $21 per injector. I've used them and they do great work.

Re: Questions about timing belt replacement

Did you put FIPG/RTV in the positions indicated on page EM-58 before placing the valve cover?...
  14. Re: Where to find complete Timing belt/water pump kit?

I use a crank/cam holder tool that i made up similar to the one in post 7. Works like a charm.

    Re: Steering creak

    Steering rack bushings shot?
Front brakes worn and wear indicator is making contact?
Something caught in the disc brake dust shield?

    Re: 2004 Tacoma 3.4 Fluid/Engine/??? Help. ASAP

....you were lucky it happened where it did, so you did not overheat and end up with a bigger problem. :)
  18. Re: Where to find complete Timing belt/water pump kit?

A large C-clamp should work....I generally just pop it into the vice and give it a squeeze.

Of course, if you are replacing the tensioner you can skip this step.

    Re: 2004 Tacoma 3.4 Fluid/Engine/??? Help. ASAP

CJM, good observation. I normally link both kits, but was feeling a bit lazy. For a few more Toyota labels, one pays $50 more.....the parts in the cheaper priced kit are the same brands as the Toyota...

    Re: 2004 Tacoma 3.4 Fluid/Engine/??? Help. ASAP

Some go OEM, some don't, but for parts like this I think OEM is the way to go. :)

  22. Re: Water pump failed, truck overheated and blown head gasket

You will not need the tensioner tool. You'll need a in-lb torque wrench and a 250 ft-lb wrench to get the crank bolt torqued.

I found a metric set of box end ratcheting wrenches, a thread chaser...

Re: What's your favorite wiper blade?
