just did the brembos w/oem pads on sunday and they are great! had the same conclusion- don't tow much, don't brake hard (use the trans for braking a lot)- they get the job done just fine.
I, too, went Brembo blanks and Hawk LTS. A good chunk of change, but the performance is phenomenal!
The only (seriously, only) downfall is the dust. These pads produce clouds of dust. For this...
x2. crank wheel over and hand tight has only been a problem for me once in 10-15 changes (on cross-country trip, i didn't double check the filter and it was loose and leaking after 2000 miles)....
sounds like some cables need adjusting, behind the control unit. i think it'd be worth it to dismantle the dash in an attempt to fix the issue. i would.
i would also make sure this was done near a...
that's not the update in this thread i wanted to see...
sorry to hear that. can't you just get new seals and whatnot to replace on the junkyard rack? you'd only be out a weekend if you did the work,...
swap engines, perhaps? it's an expensive investment for sure. one i certainly have "drooled over" but am not in any place to actually bite the bullet... yet :)
i've seen places like CARTOYS advertise aftermarket cruise system installations. maybe your local auto electronics installer does the same?
i imagine retrofitting in the factory system would be...
you are right- a 1 5/8" open-ended wrench (which is a MONSTER, by the way) is what i used (it was tight, but i just tapped it onto the tie rod end with a mallet)- borrowed from the heavy-vehicle...
wow- the cost of a reman'ed rack is the cost of 2 inner tie rod ends from the local dealer! i could just be worth it... they look so clean and pretty, too!
PM'd- the short answer, yes it solved my failed-inspection problem. no new rack necessary.
if you needed an american shipping address for anything, just give me a holler. the wife and i will be...
maybe they'll just crush 'em all- would you be surprised? they'll call it the plant closing safety recall... grab me a locker and all the goodies that go with it when they sell 'em, eh? :)
thank you but i think ive just about wised up. i got a little wrapped up in the solid axle hype. after some intense reading...my expectations of an mildly modified fj80 going drastically different...
nice! brings back memories of when i made a console for my '87 pickup after the bench was torn out and replaced with camry buckets. constructed out of 3/4" pine... i, too, had to have cupholders and...
Nice. thanks for the link, Mike. I think my 4' firestik would look funny there...probably not too sturdy either. (Plus, I like where it mounts now in the tailgate gutter.) Yea- I'm thinking I'll just...
SO.... the day has come. I was just thinking the other day, "how lucky am I!? the antenna still works nearly 100% for me..." eating those words now. Got home tonight, shut the truck off, and welcome...
Ball Joint Question: No clue, doing research too!
Tie Rod Questions: Two easy answers for two easy questions! :) I think I can handle this one :wrenchin:

How do you Like the Brake combo so far? I did this and like it a lot! It squealed right after the job, but an application of brake quiet fixed that right up!
pretty sure when i was coasting down hills (while moving cross-country, with trailer), the rpm's would drop to idle speed at 60mph+ .
if you're not opening the throttle more (accelerator down),...
i left the cam pulleys and the crank pulley alone when i did the timing belt last july. i figure i'll deal with the seals next time, behind said parts, right? (along with the idler pulleys). - ok,...

I believe the "polyurethane bushings" they refer to are the sway bar bushings, not the steering rack bushings...i've heard they can be squeaky, and nothing really to do about them except...
Poly Bushings tightened things up here! 3/5 wrenches sounds about right. just did it about a month ago (while replacing inner rack end)
tools needed:
deep 22mm socket
deep/shallow 19mm sockets...
Got the Kit in today. took a little extra time as i wasn't quite ready...forgot about the necessary wrenches to separate the inner from the outer tie rods. after the tie rod was off, it was just a...
sounds like it should be simple! haha...nothing will go wrong.
i'll be taking off the outer and inner tie rod ends on the driver's side anyway, so that's a plus. what's the reason to disconnect the...
thanks! i think i may have that 22mm already.... thought i needed it for something...
