Ditched the low hanging stock receiver. Did some cutting/welding...

Thread title pretty much explains what went down. My desire to make this happen really started when I got my CBI Tire Carrier. I went with the 'premium' model that has the pass through receiver at the bottom. This brought things to a whole new level of 'low hanging'. Not to mention the additional overhang.

When I removed my spare I noticed that the 4th Gens have a boxed in frame. This is a good thing. And being that the stock receiver is just bolted to that, why not remove it and install a receiver directly into the frame. Stronger, better, BAM!

Oh, Removed all the Spare Tire BS in the process. Dropped like 15lbs! Race Car Status.

So 20 bucks later and about 4 hours of my time, I have much less hangage. Gained 4.5" of clearance over the stock setup. Quite happy with this.

    Nice!!!

that looks like a great mod!

It is interesting to see that the bolt pattern for the stock hitch looks like it matches up to the bolt pattern for a pintle hitch. If this is the case, go Toyota!

Thanks Sean. And yes, looks like the bolt pattern is identical to a pintle bolt pattern. Not sure it would clear the bumper though. But hey, all that takes is a little trim work!

Some day when I go to a custom rear bumper with swing out, I definitely will be running a pintle on it. Love me some pintle!

Yes. The CBI Carrier is very solid. I was quite impressed with the build quality and I have been very happy with it.

Are you sure that would be safe? Are you an 'engineer', do you even know what you're talking about? Haha.

But yeah, when the time arises I will weld on a pair of safety chain loops and I will be Rockin' like Dokken!

    Thanks Lance.

It was a cheap and easy way to improve things while I continue my build. Of course, I will eventually will have a custom rear.
