Lots of reasons you might want to mod the rear fenders but I needed to clearance them for tucking tires while flexed. I wanted something to clear, not cut a tire, and not allow the layers of the fender to rust out. There is probably a better way to do this but I cut, pounded, painted, sealed, and rubberized.

here's how far it can physically tuck when the shock is all the way compressed. Its the same on both sides.
