20130713-14 Coyote flats. lots of pics

Great weekend in a place that no one knew would be so impressive. As you look at these photos or any others online, there is no way to visualize what it looks like in person. The views are extremely vast on a scale I'm not used to. The only thing similar I think would be high altitude meadows in Colorado. California never ceases to amaze me in the diversity of its terrain. I had a amazing and relaxing weekend!

Travis and I met up with the crew around 930pm at funnel lake. This is me blinding everyone lol

heres what I woke up to

Our camp site in the daylight

Heading away from the lake on the way to see the glacier

Getting close to the glacier view areas

    There it is!

Ice stays all year on this side of Mordor

Next up was Baker creek for our camp site.

The next morning it was time to start the trip to high altitude. This is the salty peterson mine

This brook crossing was horribly defaced with flowers

    Success! 11000 feet MSL

progress was slow lol. Around every corner was a view that demanded time to be taken in

Heres Travis standing in the foreground

Schriber mine itself was a waste of time, but the trip there more then made up for it. This random camp was along the way

Virtually no bugs. I rocked the all natural repellant and didn't get bitten. On Sunday morning I got bit by something, but remedied that with some judicious heat applied to the bite. worked great!

Such a fun trip! thanks! I will upload my pics soon!

I expected bugs since my buddy got eaten up hiking three weeks ago, but like Sean, I hardly saw any. Temps were 78ish during the day and 50ish at night. That was a good getaway from the heat!

    Great pictures guys. Beautiful area.

So how was the fishing? I enjoy fly fishing at high altitude lakes.

I would love to have you guys up here to see some of what we have to offer. I know it's far but with a week, including travel, it would be worth it.

Great photos guys. I plan to go later this summer, so I might have to pick your brains for trail recommendations.

not a ton of trails up there, and much of them have been blocked off. still plenty fun!

Troy and Travis did great fishing! There was also a couple of Jeeps with Boy Scouts fishing at funnel lake, and they caught at least one.

At the stream, the group camped down a few hundred yards managed to catch something about the size of a smart phone. LOL!

    Pictures!

You get a cookie if you can spot Dan!

Not a bad place to camp:

Fantastic views! I got to play tail gunner most of the weekend, So we know Troy, JD, and Dan's trucks were driving, and being followed by a hood and a pair of LightForces!
