Recycle your CFLs at Ace hardware & Home Depot

Got some old busted CFLs (Compact Flourescent Lights)? If you live near an Ace Hardware store, drop em off with them as they struck a deal with the Depart of Environmental services so we can recycle these old flourescent lamps!

Ace Hardware has struck an agreement with the Department of Environmental Services so that homeowners and small businesses can recycle used flourescent lamps.

Users of energy saving compact fluorescent lights (CFL) can recycle the bulbs at Ace Hardware stores across the US as the spiral shaped bulbs contain a small amount of mercury and cannot be discarded in regular bins.

Ace hopes to attract repeat customers by offering to recycle CFLs.

An owner of two Ace Hardware stores told cbs4denver.com: "What more natural place to recycle the CFL than the place where you're going to get the new one?"

Ace is also accepting broken CFLs, but they must be sealed in a zip-lock bag.

Just an FYI, you should ALWAYS try to recycle these lights as opposed to tossing them out, they do burn clean, but as it turns out, they all have mercury in them, so they are very dirty in a landfill, its great that places have worked out deals to recycle them!!

Lance, is that ALL Home Depots? Do they have a bin or something inside the store?

At each The Home Depot store, customers can simply bring in any expired, unbroken CFL bulbs, and give them to the store associate behind the returns desk. The bulbs will then be managed responsibly by an environmental management company who will coordinate CFL packaging, transportation and recycling to maximize safety and ensure environmental compliance.
    Basically YEP and it's inside.
