junkyard e-locker, what i need to take?

ok, i'll be starting to look for an e-locker in junkyards around town. i'm planning on taking the entire 3rd just to make the retro fitting easier.

assume my current gears are 4.10, my questions are:
a.) how many teeth the 3rd should have
b.) aside from the 3rd, what else i need to take out of the donor vehicle,
c.) where is the the e-locker control box, ecu, or relay box, or whatever you call it, is located.

    a) i believe iwrote it in my writeup. look on 4runners.org
    b) the cable that runs from the actuator motor to the ecu
    c) ecu is located under the dash, iirc on the left side of the steering column. its a black box

there should be 10 pinion teeth, and 41 ring gear teeth. thats for a 4.10 gear ratio.

When I picked up my junkyard axle I used the codes off from sonoransteel to figure out what gears it had.
If you can get the wiring harness from the axle to the body you can avoid the box and use an Inchworm or ORS controll harness for the rest of the wiring. I did.

i was told this info on this site. to find a 4:10 ratio elocker it needs to be from a tacoma. 4runner elockers come with either 4:30 or 4:56 gears. tacoma also comes with i beleive 4:30 gears in addition to the 4:10. my advice with the harness is to just get the ors elocker harness. me and a friend have them and they are super clean, easy, operates the locker quickly, and worth the $130+shipping. after pulling all the electronics you need out of the donor vehicle then setting it up again, then doing the grey wire mod (operates elocker all the time rather than just in 4lo, if you didnt know) you might as well have just bought the ors harness and could have it installed quicker.

if you go the ors harness route all you need to pull is the 3rd. and seanzorz is right. 10 pinion teeth 41 ring

The ORS harness is nice, but the switch is very generic.

I went with 12voltguy.com and he made me a sweet switch panel and harness. I just sent him the small harness that comes off the diff.

i cant believe the ors harness is 130 dollars!!! i did mine for 28 for the lower harness, plus about 40 in parts from radio shack. i utilized the stock switch (thanks bob) too, and im working on changing it so the light comes on when its locked.

ill give it to ya, the switch could be nicer but it fits in the factory spot in the dash which is cool. ors will make you a harness with a factory switch for an extra $50 i didnt care enough to spend more. they will pretty much do whatever you want, just let them know when ordering. the price does go up when adding little things though. i dont mind paying $130 for the harness its quality, all connections are soldered and neat, couldnt be more pleased.
