    X,

No, i know you weren't. it is what it is. i'm afraid that it might happen and i think its safe to say that all of us would be terribly affected to lose a president to assasination.

i have never seen such a poorly organized/run and poorly thought out running mate than mccain's campaign. for all you karl rove haters out there, do you now see why he was the top dog in the republican election machine? he knew how to win the election game and make key issues central hot button issues that resonated into votes.

i would say that obama's campaign did a masterful job of riding the wave all the way to the end. proving once again that money greases the cogs in the wheel, and no politician, even obama who derides "corporate greed" did not turn down corp money, will ever turn down money to run an effective campaign

You can tell who the smarter ones were, as they used their Obama stickers to cover up their Kerry stickers.

Granted, McCain's campaign wasn't without flaws. But, carrying 1800lbs worth of Bush/Cheney on his back absolutely killed him. I renounce both parties as a long time registered Independent, and have despised the current Administration for many reason, for as many years.

Yet, I still voted for McCain based on his principles, previous records, and willingness to stick his neck out against the majority/popularity. Simply put, Obama's predominant record of voting "present" didn't leave me much to go on. And his 20 year association with Rev. Wright just doesn't sit well with me.

For those upset by McCain's loss, you had your 8 year run. Including House & Senate majority, and completely blew it. I have no sympathy for you.

My fear is for my children's future. If handouts for those not willing to help themselves are made readily available, it will only breed complete and utter complacency.

Haven't the Dems had the house and senate majority for the past 4 years?

Edit: It's been the past 2 years, not 4 years, that the Dems have had the majority in both houses.

    This happens every election.

Whoever loses begins crying about the end of this country, and woe is them. Yet, bizarrely, the country persists, and by and large, stays the same.

In 1992, Clinton was elected with a democratic house and senate. Yet, we remained capitalist, and the economy boomed. There were some scary moments in the area of gun control, but, yet, we made it through.

Bush took office and two years later had a strong approval rating, and a republican controlled house and senate. Here we are in 2008...Still here, still doing fine.

There were, and are, issues to be fixed after both Clinton and Bush, to be sure, but by an large, here we are. I don't know about you, but I still have a roof over my head, food in my pantry, and several cars, including a Toyota 4wd. Compared to some places in this world, I feel I'm doing great.

This country will not change from a democratic republic to a socialist republic, that I can guarantee you.

More to the point, stop believing the stream of sewage that spews forth from the corrupt media. They will tell you anything to make a profit. Read for yourself. Do your own research, and quit believing anything you are told.

If you are pissed off, then get off your asses and participate more. Voting in elections is about the bare minimum you can do to be involved in your political processes. How many here actually volunteered for a campaign, or donated money? How about tried to raise money? Ever written your congressman, or senator? Do you even know who your congressman is? Or his voting record? If you have an issue that is important to you, there is a lobby, guaranteed. Get in touch with them, find out how you can make an impact.

Talk and discuss with people who disagree with you, but try to do so without being a condescending asshole. I laugh when I read threads on the internet for one candidate or another, and the supporters rabidly attack the dissenters. I cannot think of a faster way to keep someone from changing their mind than to treat them in this way. If you want support for your cause, you must be willing to rationally discuss the issue with someone, listen to their views, and have actual facts to back you up. Be willing to concede that they have valid points, and that their opinion is respected, but that you disagree with them, and point out the flaws in their logic tactfully and civilly.

Lastly, I can finally watch TV without the stupid political ads taking up valuable gluttonous product placement ads.
