Got a lot of work done over the weekend!

Found a local shop to sandblast the sucker and boy that was a life saver! Check out the tub! Clean as it can be.

Next, fill in those damn holes that the previous owner did... what a PAIN IN THE ***

Then added structural support right under the lip of the tub so that I can use that to make hinges for the lid. Had an oops w/ the bench saw. Some idiot changed it to 30 degrees when I had it to 45! grr.. Alittle fixing no biggie.

All three sides done. Fits nice and tight! Now to add support where the tailgate will be.

Test fit. looking good. Not sure if I want to run the whole length with beads or just keep it as is. It ain't going anywhere so it's all cosmetic I guess.

A little sneak of the 4runner in the back. See it's still at home... just ain't moving anytime soon!

The lid fits like a glove!

Next step, finish the tailgate and then start on the new frame. Gotta order hinges, latches and a new axle... hope to get this done in 2 weekends!

Do not run the full length with a bead. You run the risk of warping it and it's unnecessary.

Steve, I figured as much. Plus I need to make sure that lid seals perfectly so I was really hesitant to run the entire length. I tack welded one sided and ran 2" beads as best I can without it getting fugly. Some spots looks like I suck at welding... o wait I do! haha

Once it's pc'd I'll probably run some clear silicone to clean it up.

got more done this weekend until I decided to mangle my index finger with my drill. doh! Bob helped w/ a lot of the heavy lifting so that was a life saver! too bad he wasn't around to see me butcher my finger.

Tub had a bit of flex after the tail gate was cut and removed so a bit of reinforcing and hopefully contain/control the damn warping!

ahh yes my sloppy welds... using extra heim joints I have for my hinges. probably overkill and a waste of money but hey I'm just slapping together spare parts so work with me!

gosh the welds look really fugly here. o well no biggie. rear tailgate swings out since I didn't want it to swing down.

might be ugly but it'll be functional. never really cared for it being sexy since I suck at building stuff anyway! ha!

a crappy image but it'll do for now.

tub and lid (not shown) painted and just got the frame built. Kinda messed up but it'll do for now. axle sitting on the ground waiting for some loving . Those that are interested, I ended up getting a Dexter axle (6x5.5 bolt pattern) with optional electric brakes. It was only a bit more so I just pulled the plug. The tow itself will be light but it never hurts just in case I have too much gear back there!

The exact measurements were 39" frame and 58" wms. Hopefully my measurements were spot on or else I'm f'd! Test will be once it's all put together. doh!

will take more pix next week once I get everything assembled.

Wow she's really coming along nicely now! I can't see anything wrong with those welds lol they are right up my ally

  9. #39
I agree about the brakes. Might as well have them and not need them...plus, I figure they might come in handy if I'm ever on the road caught in a snow storm.

Can't wait to see this bad boy in pismo. After seeing your trailer last year I jumped on CL and found one that Sunday while sitting on the beach, made arrangements and went to Clovis 3 days later to pick it up
