I believe its the ac idle up valve and should have some spring loaded adjustable plastic thingamajig in there. but I dont usr my ac si I think Im just going to cap it.

It's there to add air to compensate for additional load on the engine - I forget on my 22re where it was tied in to, but I think it went to the power steering . . . the turbo version of that valve may be different that the n/a version since it also has to deal with pressure

If it's leaking, definately cap it, you don't want unfiltered / unmetered air getting into the engine . . . maybe there was a plastic piece and a spring that worked its way loose and fell off.

I capped it, seems to idle a little better but still not where I would like it. I guess Ill just keep looking !

I fixed a vac leak and restored the factory air box, reset the ECU and now I have a much improved idle. not perfect but much better.

My idle problem is fixed ended up being a bad fuel injector. replaced injectors as well as a new distributer cap and rotor and my problems gone
