Tying map lights into dome light

Has anyone connected the front 2 map lights to the dome light so that when a door is opened, all 3 come on? Is there a simple way to do this on a 98 4Runner?

When the door opens the circuit goes to ground and the lights turn on. I've looked into doing this on the 4runner and our Subaru but had no luck. With the 4runner I would have had to remove the headliner and still dig around the dash. Subaru owners do this mod a lot but for some reason it wouldn't work on ours. The control box you need to get to is in the a pillar behind the plastic which is nice because you don't need to remove a lot of the interior. Problem was that the wires I was looking at weren't going to ground.

If you look at Paddlenbike's footwell lighting thread you can read what he did. His domes don't come on but his homemade footwells lights do. The wires you need are under the dash on the far drivers side. I tried trying into mine but had all kinds of problems. For one most of everything you need is really hard to get to and even more hard is making the connection once you find everything. All I remember right now was you tap into the green wire.

I can't seem to find a way to post up the PDF that I have saved on this comoputer. I think I got all the wiring disgrams from UY and if you have them it's under Interior Lights - 21. I found this website that has some diagrams but I'm not sure what year they are from as they are different than mine.

Anyways I tried (paddlenbike did this successfully) the LG-B (light green-black) wire coming from the conrtol box located in the driver side footwell area. It's the box located behind the kick panel. You got to dig and dig as it's in the very back and hard to reach.

Dar, figured it out. I'll note that this will make additional lights (read: you need to make some or go to auto zone and get some super gee'd out, fly, blue leds) turn on when you open the door. This will not make your dome lights come on. Plus side to this is that you have some light in a dark spot and do not have to remove your headliner or snake wires through (especially a PITA if you have a sun roof).

Ken's footwell lights are shown here.
