VOTE HERE - Pismo Dunes riding ban

Crossposting this from Pirate. The local newspaper did a front page article on the dunes and it was very slanted towards closing it. Even though local paper polls don't mean anything, it will still be good to blow this poll up.

From my understanding, the "pollution" they are talking about is the blowing dust/sand and not emmissions. Stupid thing is that those same "particulates" are caused there no matter who/what are on the dunes. The wind blows 24/7 and that is how the dunes were created in the first place, by the wind blowing sand. Anyways, vote in the poll and read the article, it's very disturbing. They have been trying to close this place for so long.

Re: VOTE HERE - Pismo Dunes riding ban

This is my post from the pirate thread (had to edit it a tad)

This crap pisses me off. There will always be dust "particulates" at the oceano dunes even when man is long gone. Why? Because the wind blows there almost 24/7! I've had one side of my hilift almost sandblasted clean there once on one really windy night. How the hell do these people think that dunes are formed anyways? They were formed by the wind blowing f'n sand, a.k.a. "particulates". :shaking: What about the huge amount of dunes right below the mesa that we aren't allowed to drive on, you can see sand blowing off of that area all the time? Can't be from us, because we can't drive there because of the snowy plover, so if it isn't from us, then their version of "scientific research" should claim that that "dust" in that area is caused by their beloved snowy plover! :mad3:

If you don't want sand blowing by your house, don't move to a mesa that is made of sand and right next to a huge section of sand dunes! It's common f'n sense! The sand was blowing there long before they got there. Heck, there are sand dunes up ON the mesa! :shaking:

On a decent clear and windy day, we need to take these people up to the cliffs above Pirate's Cove. Just by the eye (with no binoculars), you can see the dust/sand in the air behind the dunes and it's the whole dunes, not just from the extremely tiny area we ride on. If anything, it appears to be worse in the section of the dunes that is the farthest south and closest to the mesa.[/

Re: VOTE HERE - Pismo Dunes riding ban

    Thanks guys!

By the way, the "mesa" that they refer to in the article, is the Nipomo Mesa, which is in itself a very old giant set of sand dunes. Wind has been blowing sand up there forever, and it still has its own set of sand dunes up there. Therefore it makes sense that there are sand/dust "particulates" still being blown up there. It has squat to do with what "man" is doing!

Here's an interesting read about the guadalupe dunes and their restoration.
    http://www.guaddunes.com/duneManual.html

From their explanation of how dunes are formed, Nipoma Mesa has been having sand blown at if for thousands and thousands of years.

Nell Langford, a longtime critic of the park, said the county and air officials should use their authority to shut the park down.

wonderful. study shows roosting dune buggies put sand into the air and probably ignored the sand the wind kicks up.

i bet the air in town is full of sand on a good windy day. but its been that way for as long as that sand has been there. they should study the sand storms over seas and get a clue
