    305's or 285's?! HELP!

    Hey guys,

I have the opportunity to sell my BFG Muds that I have on my rig now and replace them with the new Mickey Thompson MTZ's...great news I know. However, it's about size...always is.

I can fit 285's with zero problems. I test fitted ADH8796's 305's today and it looks like I might have a few issues.

Here's a pic of the biggest place of concern

Front bumper, valence can be trimmed but I'm worried at full stuff it may rub on the metal part of the bumper which I'd rather not have to trim:

The back isn't so much of an issue as I can remove the mudflap if it rubs on that but another area I'd like for you guys to look at.

What do you guys think? The 285's sound better but the 305's look better. The 285's fit perfectly in the fender wells, the 305's will stick out quite a bit further posing the danger of dings and scratches from rocks on the paint (the newly installed sliders will help a little bit with that).

Here's a pic of the two comparatively:

They look so much bigger and badder. However, I think the 285's will still give the bigger "fill in the fender better" look but the 305's once again are still better looking IMO. Either way I'm gonna go with the MTZ's as long as all of my funds come together.

Here's a zoomed out pic so you can see how it looks overall:

So what do ya'll think? Am I gonna rub a lot with the 305's? Should I just take a chance and go for 'em? Or should I keep with what I know and go with the 285's?

    Thanks for readin,

    Fink

you should test fit again and flex the crap out of them and judge then.

if you plan on wheeling, go with what fits best, if you dont really, then go with what looks best.

i have 33x12.5's on my truck (a little bigger than a 305/70) and they rub the top of my front fenders (i have 2" spacer and 1"bl up front)on full flex, but besides that ive had no issues.

    Re: 305's or 285's?! HELP!

I'm not a newb man, I did search. You can show me all the comparisons you want...but each rig is different. I know all about the differences, but I wanted to post pics of what it looks like on MY rig.

I saw the thread that Good Times linked for me when I searched, that helped answer another question I had but Andy(bama) has an aftermarket front bumper and the Limited flares so his assessment of his rig is only good for the pinchweld aspect of it. I wanted to know if it was gonna rub on my front bumper. This was the best way to do that, in my mind.

    Thanks for the advice, lee.

yeah, i'm not a good representation of a rig w/ a stock bumper. the ARB has WAY more clearance up front than the stock plastic & metal.

Thanks Andy, with your knowledge of the 305's do you think I'll run into many problems with the way it sits in that first pic?

    Thanks again,

    Re: 305's or 285's?! HELP!

305's do look a little bigger but I think if you were to run 285's on your rig they would look real good and you wouldn't have to do any triming. I figured out I'm going to need to do some trimming and shave my upper A-armes without a doubt because with almost any flex I rub the upper A-armes. Just depends on how much time you want to spend triming and griding. Either way it's going to look sweet the tread pattern on these new MTZ's is just mean looking.

honestly, it's going to be close.

the easiest way to check would be to put them on, turn the wheel to reduce the gap to it's minimum, then jack up that lower suspension arm to stuff that wheel and see what it does.

    it's going to be close...

    Re: 305's or 285's?! HELP!

do you really need the extra width of a 305? It seems from your post that you only want them because they look cool. Dont get me wrong, they do look nice, but if its going to be that big of a pita, keep the 285s

You had the 305 on...why didnt you just swap tires for a day and you test them out...that would be the best thing to do.
