Wheeling! Colorado vs. Arizona

just wondering for those that have lived in both, Co. and Az. where do you think the better wheeling is ?

I've lived and wheeled in both. I prefer Co. or N. AZ. wheeling. Not much for the desert. There are some cool ghost towns ro explore in both though.

Flagstaff is nice. But that's probably because it looks alot like Co. lol. I lived in Mesa for a couple of years. It's awesome in the winter, but wheeling in the desert is just not my thing. If you are in Phoenix, you can take the 87 toward Payson. It is nice there...'course, Payson is in the middle of the Tonto Nat'l Forest and it looks an awful lot like Co. Hahahaa.

If you have a chance, and you want to explore, on the way to Payson (about half way) there is a Ghost town you can go wheeling to. It's more of an old mine, but it's kool none the less. Some where on this board I posted pics and commentary about that place (I forget the name of it). There is an old 1940s truck that appears to have slid off the upper road and rolled the 100 or so ft. to the bottom of the canyon where the mine facility is. It's pretty kool when you try to imagine the folks that built, drove and ultimately crashed in that truck. They'd all be dead or in their 90s by now.

Payson is a kool place if you like to explore and research history. I went through some of the pawn shops and curio/antique shops there. I found some awesome civil war swords and a killer Winchester lever action in 45-70 from around the turn of the 20th century-ish. the price was great too, but I still had my Utah ID and could not buy it.

Once you resign yourself to 8 months of purgatoryesque heat. Phoenix is not such a bad place. They try pretty hard to make it attractive and there are lots of opportunities to explore if you like the desert.

Sunflower is a fun trail.. You even get a taste of water, when the conditions are right.
Back in 07 before I lost the blingy wheels.

I liked AZ, especially around the Prescott/Jerome area (which I'm most familiar with). That said, I've never really been wheeling in CO except for the one time with a rented 4runner (more of a trail ride anyway).
