    Help me pick a tv...

Our tv is toast and we need another. Don't want to spend very much and pretty much will have to get it from BestBuy since with the card we get a little extra time to pay it off with no interest. Sooo.... I'm looking at these two tv's

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dynex%26%23153%3B+-+37%22+Class+/+720p+/+60Hz+/+LCD+HDTV/1009981.p?id=1218208403795&skuId=1009981

What's the difference between the 720p and 1080p if they are both HDTVs?

    1) Don't get the generic brand unless there are lots of good online reviews (see #3).
    2) ALWAYS get 1080p (1920x1080 resolution, a.k.a. "Full HD"), 720p (1366x720) is dead and doesn't save you enough money to be worth it.
    3) Read online reviews before purchasing!

    What Brain Said.

Personally, I like the Sony Bravia series.
Stepdad got us a XBR edition which is sweet.
Dad got us the regular Bravia but it is still as good.

Yep, I always go by #1 and #3 That brand is actually BestBuy's brand and is getting decent reviews (especially for the price) so far.

After looking at it more the 1080 has many more inputs as well which is nice!

This will be our everyday tv and we don't have cable, just the antenna and convertor box which actually does a pretty good picture on the 3 channels we get (one is HD). The rest is dvd's, and streaming netflix through the wii and the games. Right now, nothing is hooked up with HDMI, and only the dvd player is hooked up using composite cables (or whatever they are called), and the wii is hooked up with just regular component cables.

My ps3 is hooked up with HDMI in the garage on a bigger tv The tv is too big to fit our entertainment center, so I just can't bring that one in.

My vote goes to Samsung, LG, Sony, or maybe Panasonic.

    Don't buy a Westinghouse.

    Just my $.02.

    Get 1080. 720 is so 2005.

Also, don't buy HDMI cables from the stores. Amazon has them for as little as a couple bucks.

Re: Help me pick a tv...

thanks Steve and Sean, that's good to know! I haven't messed with getting more HDMI or composite cables because they seem to be so expensive and the other component cables work good enough for what we use it for. Really, how good does Sesame Street or the Wii Lego games need to look?!

Also, FYI, you don't need the netflix disc to stream on Wii or PS3 anymore and it's easier to search on there now too!

Always get a 1080p, im kicking myself for having a 720, but i bought it when there was about an $800 difference between the two.. my computer monitor is a 1080p hdtv and its awesome.

My favorite brands are Sony and Sharp. Iv heard good and bad things about Westinghouse, to me it sounds like if you get the Wednesday model your good to go :-P but if your unit happens to have been made on a monday or a friday good luck haha

All I can say is Samsung. Samsung CONSISTENTLY gets some of the HIGHEST marks for any 1080p class Tv's out there. Check out consumer reports.
We have a 1080p Samsung (touch of color model) 46" at my dads house, and it is wonderful, although I dont care much about the built in hard drive or internet connectivity. we have a lower model samsung 32" 720 here at the house, and I kick myself everytime for not buying the 1080.
