A little bit, but not terribly so. The biggest surprise was that the plate that mounts against the crossmember actually pulled away at the edges, even with the big winch mounting plate there to prevent it - imagine the "i" is the crossmember and the parentheses is the plate from a top view I( . . it's only about 1/8" at each side though. It helps if you don't drill mounting holes until it's all together.
