Re: 4.88's or 5.29's Opinions please!!!

Well I think I'm going to go with the 5.29's. I drove to work the other day in 4th gear and revving around 2600 rpm which is where I'll be with 5.29's and the 32'' tall studded tires and it wasn't too bad at all. The speed limit on my route to work is only 50mph so I think the rev's will be okay.

AFAIK, that's a myth. Lot's of people run 5.29's or even 5.71's with bigger tires than 35's...
yes they do run them and break them all the time, most of the hardcore people I ran with went back to 4.10's in their buggies.

I run 5.29s and have only broke 1 set in 4 years running the hard crazy trails

back on topic I would recommend running the 4.88s In my opinion the 5.29 will be too much gear for you.

no ones going to break 529 in a IFS 4runner. dont even figure that into the equation unless your building it into a frame buggy sas thingy

Well maybe I should just stick with my first plan and go with the 4.88's then. It'll keep me pretty much as close to the stock set-up as possible with the 35's. Thanks for the help guys but you're not much help... every other day you keep changing my mind!!!

LOL. Well, I'll go ahead and toss a vote in to cement you into the 4.88's. I would also reccoment those. I have 5.29's in my trailer queen '84, and Id ont worry about strength, but I think it may be to much gear for towing on the highway like you are saying. I know the few times I have driven mine on the road, I wished I had less gear.
I tow in my Tacoma double cab with stock 4.10's.
