    Engine Idle After Clutch Disengage

I figured I'd post this in the newbie section because it seems pretty elementary to me but I still don't know the answer/reason. It seems when Im driving normal speeds, say 30, whenever I brake, I push in the clutch pedal, bring it out of gear, and either hold in the clutch or let it out (depending on how quickly im going to need to get back in gear...thats not relevant) my RPMs take probably 10 seconds to drop from the 1500 range down to the normal 800-ish idle. Why is there such a delay? with the clutch disengaged there is nothing making the engine turn so fast from the ground, so what could it be? i *think* this happens whether the engine is warm or not, btu its more prominent when the engine hasnt warmed up yet

Does it do the same thing if you punch the throttle at idle and let it come back down to idle again?
.....or does this only happen on the highway?

Also is your truck hard to get into gear at all?

I'll have to check next time I go out in it but i *think* it does the same if i punch it in neutral and let it come down. it just seems it has somewhat of a delay to get back down to idle. i only notice this on normal streets where i have to stop and go a lot (i wouldnt be shifting out of gear on the highway). my truck is not hard to get into gear
