Now i gotta figure out where to put the air bumps. My best bet is to put them on the lower links but Ive got heims on both ends so Im worried about them turning. It might be fine if I make the bump pad shaped like a bowl though, keep the bump stop from trying to twist it.
I originally planned to make them land on the lower link brackets but then theyll be in the way of the coilover when its at full droop.
Any other ideas on this?

brad i like the idea of making the bumpstop plates being a bowl shape, would keep air bumps from rolling off the side of the link.
good idea.
i like those seats. about the same wing size as my m3 seats.

The main part of the rear truss is done. Im gonna truss the rest along the back and then brace the center backwards if that makes any sense.

Workin on the crossmember right now. Its gonna take a while, Id say Im about 1/4 of the way done with it.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f35/mossyrocks/4runner37005.jpg
And I braced the coilover hoops back to the frame so now they've got some triangulation. I honestly cant move them an 1/8th of an inch at the top without the engine brace in.

Here is what I mean about the radius of the wheel well. It will look really bad if I keep goin up behind the door. You cant really make it round, itll have a big hump in it.

show a picture from the back, seems like you wouldnt be able to go any further anyways due to the door inless you decided to do a custom door setup and trimmed it another 4 inchs up and around, which would be a pain in the ass
because youd have to seal it again and make sure it fits right from the cuts.
might bumpstop the back for now :/

And, I might cut it off, cut out the frame, and outboard the coilovers as much as possible. It just seems like with it flexed it will just pivot off the coilover as opposed to compressing it.

Its sitting at a frame height of 24.75" front and rear. But thats with the coilovers threaded all the way up.
Front springs are my 250 over 350 and feel a little stiff but without the front bumper. the front corner weights are 1750.
I used Chris's springs for the rear because mine were too much. So Ive got 200 over 300 in the rear with each corner weighing in at 1150. It feels perfect but its a little tall.
So I may try 200 over 350 up front and 175 over 300 out back.

whats up with the gas in atlanta...
04 Rocko Taco
09-23-2008, 11:46 AM
we require a special blend of gasoline thanks to the EPA and our bad air quality. With the hurricanes knocking out refinery's in texas, we dont have any new gas coming down the pipeline, and we cant use anyone elses gas....
Asshats are panicking, and buying up all the gas, its the worst on the northside, there are tons of stations out of gas. Out here on the west side though in d'ville, I only sat in line for about 15 minutes today to get 3.97 a gallon gas at the QT.

LOL yeah this is true, I almost flipped the truck today (long story Asshat drivers on motorcycles cutting me off, I hope I am not an ass like they are when I get a bike) so I would have almost had to bring it down anyway lol!

haha blake did you have a hard time finding gas when you came up to meet up with Miller this weekend??
I live in Sandy Springs on the Northwest side of Atlanta and all the Krogers are completely out of gas and everyones freaking out.
There's literally 2 hour gas lines at some of the gas stations that still have gas, its crazyness :shake:

i was living in atlanta using marta, in south carolina now and practically ran out on peachtree in buckhead district but thankfully that station had lines, i was willing to wait to get gas..
i have a gas station 2 miles from my house now that has gas for 3.56, so ill fill up and then some when i come back next week
haha ohh wow. so im confused, are you living in south carolina now or atlanta??
Andersons kinda near clemson isn't it? Im looking at going to school there next year.
I'd love to see your rig sometime your atlanta, I hope mine will look somewhere near as great as yours does someday...

all of the brake lines appear to be fine. And this doesnt have a check valve to the booster...?
it might be inserted in the rubber hose and not be visible, but every vacuum booster has one, or should - it prevents vacuum from "leaking" out of the booster when engine vacuum is low (like low rpm, heavy throttle)

Alright, drove it home last night, around the trails here at the house today and then back to the shop on the interstate...
Ive got weird steering goin on or I just need to get used to it. It is extremely touchy and almost scary, likes to twitch back and forth... And the sway just makes it worse. I need higher rate springs on the back so that may help the steering some and I may actually need a sway bar back there but time will tell. The only other thing I can think of on the steering is the ackerman might be off a little too much or the ram could even still have air in it which could delay it a little.
Already mentioned but stiffer springs out back, Im gonna throw chris's 200 over 300 back there and go for a spin just to see.
The brakes are still funky and Id like to try the toy MC but the reservoir on it wont fit under the engine cage... It would solve my brakeline-coilover issue (almost touching). So Im gonna see what I could do about a remote res. for the toy MC.
Unbalanced 38.5" creepies ride like they are on glass... hit 70 with them and it was incredibly smooth, but 20psi with an 8" wheel makes them ride on their centers.
The exhaust is far too loud
And for some reason when it idles down the oil light is coming on.

Brad builds most of his stuff (as much as he can) on the vehicles instead of on a jig to maintain quality and craftmanship. and I think a copy of anything that is on that truck is mor ethan most people are willing to bite into financially, Brad never hold back, cost isnt a factor in his personal stuff.

Your thread is way to dangerous there bro. I found my self asking about full width axles at the junkyard yesterday. :wrenchin: Damit! thats not what I need to get into now.
By the way, your runner is both the most functional and the best looking machine I think I've ever seen. I like the way your fab work looks, and is, ultra clean and precision. There are alot of other bomb proof rigs out there, but few with as much attention to detail.

stability on side hilling, etc. Also coilovers tend to unload when you get on REALLY step climbs, so that'll keep him from unloading, and then just tipping backwards. :)

I applaud the work done on this rig. Excellent parts with exceptional execution. Hats off.
Suck the front on steep climbs in hopes of shifting the center of gravity forward. Suck the rear down on steep descents to keep the weight back. It also keeps a load on the suspension for traction.
I have to ask though, at this point, why have a truck that holds glass? All this suspension and axle on a rig with a body. You have more axle and suspension than I do, but I ask myself the same thing if that is any consolation.
Looking forward to more progress.

Honestly Im not too sure why I have a full bodied rig with glass... Maybe just for the challenge if nothing else...? I will say that once the body is too far gone to fix Ill most likely build a tube chassis and just transfer all the parts over to it.
Also thanks alot man, I really do appreciate the kind words. And that goes for everybody.

Quick update.
First of all... Its now sitting at 23.75" from ground to frame on 38.5 creepies (measure 38" on the truck). So Ill probably adjust it back up to 24.5" and leave it.
Ive been daily driving the 4runner since sunday morning and I dont want to park it right now. I am absolutely loving it.
It does take some getting used to but its great once you do. It has some body roll but its actually not that bad even without sway bars. I was planning on adding them but as of now I seriously doubt I will. It has a little bit of oversteer from what I can tell (still need to run the finished numbers), so its a little touchy at speed but nothing to keep me from feeling fine at 80mph. As for 80mph there aren't any bad vibrations or death wobble and the un-balanced creepies are smooth as glass.
As for off-road, its an entirely different truck than it was 4 months ago... I will never run leaf springs again. I have yet to even test sucking the front end down with the winch on a steep climb because it actually hasnt even needed it... I have very minimal unloading in the front end. Also, Ive been through a few places already that took a lot of throttle and a lot of backing up to get through before and now its just crawling it. I have had absolutely no wheel hop so far as well...
Im sure there are more things Im forgetting as well as more that will show up but thats all Ive got for now... Any questions just ask.

So update on the supercharger, Im finally getting parts for this thing to go on right. Also it may help anyone doing this in the future, Ive been doing a lot of reading but Im still unsure on the fuel kits. Once I get the money to order the last parts Ill probably just give gadget a call at URD.
So heres what Ive got so far and any help is appreciated.
PLX vac/boost gauge with sensor module
PLX afr wideband gauge with sensor module and sensor
URD rear 02 sensor simulator
5VZ crank pulley
5VZ supercharger tensioner pulley
5VZ 2.2" supercharger pulley
Still have to get an EGT gauge for piece of mind
And then for fuel I have 3 options;
Lexus injectors, walbro 190 pump, and Apexi S-AFC
URD 7th injector kit
Urd 6 injector kit
Gadget recommended the 7th injector kit last I talked to him but now that Im going with a 2.2" pulley now and maybe smaller later Im starting to lean towards the 6 injector kit. However, Im unsure on the tuning for that right now. I used to have the Apexi S-AFC on mu subaru so Im familiar with that, but I dont see it as the preffered method.
Also if it matters, my intake is about 10" long due to my coilover hoops being in the way and it has a high flow cone filter. The exhaust is also very short with a 9" magnaflow and no cat.
jrock
11-16-2009, 08:15 PM
Ive not heard of the lexus injectors being used. What size are they? Most run the 318cc from urd or use non turbo supra which are 308cc i think. Im using 370cc bought from URD on sale couple years ago. Not sure of the duty cycle, but they seem to work good. I also did the supra maf so my tuning was way different than initial map urd flashed by FTC1 with.
Ive got the O2 sensor calibrator that im still trying to figure out. http://www.urdusa.com/product_info.php?cPath=66_72&products_id=1260518747
its sent with a base map but most likely for 318cc injectors. Ive got to get with gadget and ask him. im still getting higher afrs in closed loop low boost after install.
id probably run a stand alone if i were to start all over again. that said, I could not imagine driving my 4runner without the s/c ever again!

ha, lol,,,thats my friend tarantulaman! He came to my house last month and I tuned his rig a little bit with him. I had forgotten he used the lexus injectors. He left with a basic closed loop tune,,fuel trims cancelled eachother out at idle and majority of vaccum. I think hes been working on open loop tuning with afr guage/R4/camstudio; to try and get steady 11.8 at boost.
Here is guage heaven:all in one.

Sorry I didn't make it by this weekend... I would have liked to come by and seen how things were shaping up... and grabbed my Hi-Lift out of my pile. You should have taken us up on dinner. It was GOOD. Anyway, I'll be back soon.

Let me just say this, JBA headers pretty much have to be put on with the motor in the floor... And then the bellhousing has to be ground down to clear them. Apparently JBA stands for "Just Being an Asshole". The flanges are turned the worst possible direction and they just dont fit together well.
Here is where the bellhousing is ground down about a 1/4".

Brad how do you like having the Auto trans with the crawler?
I have been contemplating doing a manual trans swap or stick with the auto and getting the same things done your doing.

you never "finish" anything. You've always got all these little improvements to do and things you don't like about what you already did...
