    Celica wing/spoiler opinion

So I found a bit of junkyard treasure today & I'm stuck with a decision so I'd like to see everyone's opinion. I currently have a 1st gen MR2 wing on the back of the Celica. The center post doesn't quite touch the trunk lid, but that would be easy to fix. Here's the current setup, with additional angles here

I found a wicked cool wing on the back of a Fiero while I was hunting for an electric fan conversion, I just couldn't leave it. A bit of searching revealed it to be an "IMSA" style spoiler, they're still made and cost ~ $450. When I took it off 2 of the mounting studs on each side twisted free from the fiberglass, but that's easy to fix. I figure as is, I can get some cash for it with the broken mounting studs or 'glass on new studs and get a bit more cash - all of which means more upgrades for the Celica. OR I can cut it up and make it fit the Celica - it's about 2"-3" too wide to look anywhere near normal as it sits + the Celica trunk lid isn't flat like the Fiero. One of my worries with this spoiler is that it'll hold water and create a pool on the trunk lid.

on a Fiero (not my pic)

So what do you think, finish the MR2 wing and sell the IMSA spoiler to afford some go fast goodies OR hack up the IMSA to fit the Celica and put off some of the other projects?

Oh I cant decide either keith!

They both look sweet. But money is nice if you fix it, well if you can find someone to buy it that is.

Keep the Celica one. This is rally, not autocross.
    (*Sorry if that sounds blunt.)

    Keep the MR2 wing Keith.
Imho it looks better then the Fiero one, but in the end it is your decision.

If you can fix up the Fiero one to make some cash for goodies for the Celica, then I think that just is your final decision right there, more goodies for more fun in the Celica, remember its not a looker its a racer, your rallying the thing, not entering it in SEMA :-)

I don't like the voting options.

You're in the PNW, therefore by their logic you should "Put a Bird On It".

Quick question I just thought of, looking at the fact you want a wing for downforce couldn't you just look at course demands versus adding specific ballast(s) to the trunk instead of even bothering with modding and angling a wing? Yes, I know the speed vs. aerodynamics bit comes into play but even when I drove the Adesa S-10 all we did was weights. The catch is the amount of time(s) you'd have to run a course and document info versus having the exact same course and conditions every time thereafter.

I say keep the MR2 wing and sell the IMSA wing. Mainly for the reason you pointed out. Since you do rallycross in the PNW, mud is a major factor, and will pool up on your trunk with that other wing. The MR2 wing allows it to drain off the back.

Also, definitely leave a wing on there. The coupe Celicas look really ugly without something on the back

    Re: Celica wing/spoiler opinion

The general consensus is to stick with the MR2 wing, which is kinda what I was feeling anyway. So the IMSA wing went on Craigslist this morning & I posted it to the biggest Fiero forum I could find. I think this is going to buy most of my exhaust system

I'm not too worried about downforce at a rallycross, I don't have the pony-power to hit speeds fast enough for it to come into play. Hopefully spring will bring some dry rallycrosses where I can see how it does in the dry.
