This may sound like a complete noob question but,
What is the hinge piece that everyone is using for the swing out carrier?
My stock roof rack finally took a dump, and after getting the spare off from down there I have come to the conclusion that its just not the best place to put a spare, plus with top heaviness and such, it would be best to move it to the back.
So I will be designing an bumper soon and cutting it out of cardboard first to test fit it and cut it, but while i do that i want to start collecting supplies for it.

Damn it I timed out responding to your question. Google swing out tire carrier and spindle and you'll find about 30 different manufactures that use some sort of heavy duty metal spindle. Some people have them attached to custom tube and plate bumpers while others use the stock bumper and mount the spindle on top a support bar behind the stock bumper.
