Sorry for stating the obvious, but wow, 11 MPG is pretty poor.

Even in the dead of winter (-30C) when gas mileage is as it's worst I get around 14-15 MPG I will sometimes get as low as 12-13 MPG if I'm using the car starter and idling the truck to heat it up before the kiddos go to daycare in the morning.

Like I said though, be methodical about solving the issue you'll have your epiphany moment soon enough.

When my air/fuel sensor went bad I'd be on empty before I was even getting close to 100miles.

Avy, do you have an OBD diagnostic system yet?

If not, your best money may be spent by getting something like this to track down your issues:
    http://www.auterraweb.com/scantools.html

It will at least show you what is working correctly and let you focus your efforts/money more efficiently.

I am looking into that Jamie, but righ tnwo the funds have been depleted a little.

(dang VW needed a CAT.... and to find one for a 2.0 was like trying to find a numbers matching Hemi Cuda)

I wish there was a way to use my existing wireless reader with a program for my laptop, then I would be fine...

I hate to resurect this old thread for my first post. Have you resolved this issue Yotafun ? I'm getting about 11 mpg also. Could it possibly be the coolant temp sensor messing up the air fuel ratio ?

    Re: Gas Mileage Woes

I gave up chasing it, I get roughly 13 MPG right now, others that have driven my 4Runner swear that have gotten 16-17 and I just can't see it.

I have heard of people replacing the front and rear o2 or A/F(Depending on year) on higher mileage vehicles just for the sake of doing it.

I think its just my gear ratio, lift, and the roads I drive anymore.
