Sorry no pics. At 102,000 miles my original transmission blew. Planetary gear completely grenaded completely destroying the tranny. Pulled it and sent it to IPT for a complete rebuild. Got tranny back very happy for 4 years.
65,000 miles later.....start hearing grinding noises. Pull truck over truck stalls out. Start truck, put in drive truck dies. Start truck again put in L truck drives. Stop truck call AAA.
Drop pan full of metal. Fluid looks dark and metallic. Can't be good. Tranny shop says planetary gear striped out.

Called IPT yet?
I had MAJOR work done on an 84 vette where they had to have ALOT of parts made between them and Level 10 trans b/c it took both of them to get it working. No issues and 20k later.

I got the performance rebuild from IPT. Tranny has been run with amsoil atf its entire life. Never flushed but drained and refilled twice.Originally Posted by CJM

I don't blame IPT or the rebuild I think that the planetary gear in the 01-02 4runners are just weak. Its just that the performance rebuild didn't really address the problem.

Yes i did. I wanted their opinion before I made my decision. Its kinda hard to diagnose a transmission over the phone.

Sadly I've seen many 01-02 4runners with grenaded planetaries.
What about swapping in an 99-00 year tranny this time?

Jamie is this a direct swap? Does anyone know if this swap effect the multimode feature on the 01-02?
