2.7 Tacoma Temp. Guage not working

    1998 Tacoma 2.7 4x4

After starting the truck the guage will spike to red after about 3 minutes. If the truck is started any time after that it will spike instantly. I purhcase a Coolant Temp Sensor but i am unsure if its the one i need. There is a sensor right near the thermostat housing. It doesnt look like the one i was sold. Any info would be great! Thanks guys!

For the Sake of everyone else on the site.
The ECT sensor is located on the back of the block.
I think what your looking at by the Thermostat is a water temp sensor,
but I am looking into it a little more
